  1. A, My 02 is still in Jack's shop, getting new brake lines, rotors and pads, so I'm out for tomorrow. I will work on something for April though.... Jeff
  2. I want to first say we're sorry we've not gotten a drive up and scheduled by now, we have something tentatively planned for end of March - part of the issue is that we're trying to coordinate drives with open heouses/events at shops and dealers and the extra moving parts make it a lot tougher to schedule. I have a route for Mulholland, up to Stunt Rd, etc if needed....I may be able to get there, although 7 on a Sunday is a bit rough, even for me. Jeff
  3. The E3 ws pulled off eBay this morning....anyone here in SoCal snag it? Jeff
  4. That stance reminds me of a Lancia Fulvia.......

  8. Jack, Congratulations on making it into Sundance, that is no easy feat and the pinnacle of the indie film world. I've been on both sides of the festival world, having had a film shown at one and being a principal at LAIFF. My suggestion is to focus solely on your film and the attention it garners, and to make as many contacts you can with as little distractions as possible. As cool as it may seem, taking the 2002 that far a distance (really really far) is imprudent given that that Sundance could be very significant career wise (I'm assuming). Fly there, rent a car that has good heat and don't be stressed and let the festival honor you as a filmmaker who got in the door - plus parking is an absolute bitch during Sundance, and if its snowing (likely), all the more tougher it will be. When I was there I was thrilled to not have car worries, I could focus on matters at hand. Save the 2002 for the North Cascades Highway - in the spring....just my opinion! Jeff
  9. Drivers, Ok, I've finally thrown in the towel on trying to manage photos for our events, I'm just too swamped trying to run things, to even take photos at them these days! SO, what we have done is set up a Facebook page so we can have all of our event participants upload and share their photos, and they will all be in a convenient, easy to find place. Our name on Facebook is Socal Vintagebmw. Now I (Jeff) am a Facebook novice, so please bear with me while I learn, but I'd like to get as many photos from as many of you for as many of our events going back to our first one, the Angeles Crest Drive in 2008. I may have a couple of 'borrowed' ones in the albums already, so my apologies if they are there against your wishes. I'm not sure if you have to be 'friends' first, I have to give a seal of approval, credit and background checks or whatever to get your photos uploaded, but send them along and I'll figure it out. Any handy tips will be appreciated! Try this link and lets see what happens: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/home.php?filter=app_2305272732 Also, we still have tshirts! The perfect stocking stuffer, and boy will you look super cool wearing a SoCal Vintage BMW Meet 2009 shirt at your local get together or next drive event! And they are becoming art collectibles here in SoCal! For further info: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SoCal-Vintage-BMW-Meet-2009-T-Shirt_W0QQitemZ260501105423QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20091104?IMSfp=TL091104193007r21590 We still have most sizes left, but I think we're of Large, which wasn't that large anyway. Most importantly, John and I wish all of you a very happy and safe Thanksgiving and holiday season. We are thankful and grateful for all the support all of you have shown throughout the past couple of years helping us get our SoCal Vintage BMW orgainzation up and running strong. We want all of you around to be part of things for a very long time, so please drive safely! See you all behind the wheel soon! Jeff (& John)

  14. Drivers, John and I want to express our deepest thanks and gratitude for all the participation and support which made the 2009 SoCal Vintage BMW Meet a huge success. We're sorry we couldn't get out there and spend more time with all of you, but we've found out that when you put a show like ours, we're so busy with logistics and covering all the bases, that we really don't get to be out there and be more a part of the crowd. Everyone told us it was a great show, and it sure looked that way! Our sources and info put it at about 180-200 cars for the day. Please post any photos on the forum boards or email us some of your best, as neither of us had a chance to go out and take any photos. Again, thank you for being a part of it all and we do hope you had lots of fun! Now the WINNERS! 15. Drivers, OK, we're in the last crazy hours before the SoCal Vintage BMW Meet, lots of last minute registrations, we're up to 120 cars and we've been told another 50 or so will show up day of the Meet - and then there are those we don't know about! Could easily be 200 Vintage BMWs at the Meet this year....yeah! Anyway, John has been running around town like the trooper he is picking up banners, goody bag swag and very importantly - Drivers Award Plaques. Here are the categories for 2009: Best 02, Best E3, Best E9, Best Other (Neu Klasse and all all pre '65), Best Modified Car, Best 3, 5, and 6 series, Best restoration candidate, best vintage car ('76 and back) best classic (after '76) Most Desired, and Quirkiest! Counting these votes will be fun! Make sure you get your ballots in by noon to qualify for our give aways - detail products from Meguiars. Ok, see you all Saturday! Jeff (& John)
  16. Charley, 9 is ok, but I suspect the majority of folks will get there between 8-8:30.... Jeff
  17. Drivers! The SoCal Vintage BMW Meet is ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!!! We are in the final stages of getting all the swag together for the goodie bags, tshirts banners, sound system and all the other logistical challenges that come in the final week. We're really looking forward to this, we got some great stuff for the goodie bags....but we're not telling..... If you are planning on attending next week and have not yet registered, PLEASE register as soon as you can so we know how many people will be attending. We currently have about 110 cars registered - and 60 of those are NEW attendees, which is fantastic! But we're wondering where are all of you that attended last year and have not registered....??!?! Registering as soon as you can helps us to manage the event better and give you the best BMW Meet experience we can - so we know how many volunteers to have on hand, laying out parking for different models and so on. We're going to have a great time next Saturday.....please don't miss it, and contact us if there's anything we can help out with. Thanks! John Barlow IV & Jeff d'Avanzo www.socalvintagebmw.com socalvintagebmw@yahoo.com
  18. A friend totalled her Mercedes and she is looking at a late BMW, 2004-5, about 40K miles...looking to spend about $15-16K. Not sure how much car this will get, as I never look at anything newer than 20 years old....! Car needs to be in SoCal for in person viewing.....anyone? Thanks. Jeff
  19. We're getting all the goodies for the bags together and we'll have some great stuff as usual! The food, signage, tshirts and all the great stuff is pretty set, and we're going to have a load of great vintage BMWs - and our Sponisrs will have great setups for you to drool over......make sure you sign up as soon as so we can get an accurate count and we look like we know what we're doing the morning of the show! Thanks! Jeff
  20. Awww....c'mon guys, it won't be the same without you....Tom, we love your 1600 down here! Waaaah! Ok, it will be a rocking show, with with excellent goodies, food, people, music and a pantload of vintage Bimwahs....that's all we can do! Jeff
  21. Drivers, Its exactly two weeks until the 2nd SoCal Vintage BMW Meet goes off! Wow, time flies. We've updated the socalvintagebmw.com website with hotel information, please go to the Lodging page and you can get details on the Carriage Inn ($85) Airtel Plaza ($99) and Holiday Inn Express ($109, including hot breakfast). We didn't get any feedback after last year's Meet, so please share any info good or bad. There shouldn't be any issue with room availability, but of course, its always wise to not wait until the last minute. Speaking of waiting to the last minute, it seems there are many drivers that have yet to register for the Meet. Right now almost 60% of the drivers registered for the Meet are new - this will be their first year attending, which is fantastic, we love watching the Vintage BMW community grow. What we really need is for all of you that are planning to attend to register as soon as you possibly can. We have to put in all the orders for tshirts and goody bag items, and advise Kogi BBQ as to a realistic number of attendees. Based on last years attendance, we believe there are many more drivers that have not yet registered. Since we have to place the orders of shirts and bags based on what the registrations are, we want to ensure that we have as accurate a number as possible, that we have shirts and bags available to all who attend. Please register as soon as you can, by not doing until very late you run the risk of not having a goody bag being available to you, and we are trying hard to avoid that situation. Thank you all again so much for your support and ethusiasm. Please contact us with any questions, and can;t wait to see you all soon. Jeff & John
  22. Drivers, I apologize for asking this again, but I;ve just gotten back from a 3500 mile road trio through NoCal, OR and WA, and I've not been as organized as I'd like from the road. I'd like to get a head count for this Saturday's drive/bbq, I know a few of you confirmed, but if you can please reconfirm vai email, that would make it easier for us to nail down food, etc. Just a reminder, if you've already registered for next month's Meet, the bbq is a freebie, so if you haven't already, please go and register. Otherwise, we ask a $10/person donation. Yes, my bad, the food last year at THE MEET was poor, the food at the BBQ was fabulous, Alexis (and John sometimes) is the bomb! We'll assemble at 8:30 and leave about 9, so please be on time as best you can. Again, thank you for your indulgence and please let us know today if possible if you are making it Saturday, thanks. Jeff (& John)
  23. Drivers, After a few fire delays, we're going to have our mountain drive and bbq this Saturday Oct 3 at 9AM, in Castaic (details via email after RSVP). We'll drive the area and then head back down to John Barlow's for a bbq. If you've already registered for the meet, this is a free bbq, if not please register at socalvintagebmw.com, or we as a $10/person donation (we rather have you registered for the meet!) Also, given how bad the food situation was last year, it was very important for us to get that nailed down this year we've got a great situation. The guys that drive the gourmet Korean BBQ truck, Kogi BBQ (kogibbq.com) will be at our event offering some really great lunch options. Go to their website and check them out, we hear their short ribs taco is beyond beyond. We're at the point of finalizing tshirt and goody bag item orders and it seems that a lot of drivers that are planning to attend have not registered yet. If you are planning to attend or think you're likely to be there Please please register as soon as possible - it really helps us tremendously to have a better idea of hard numbers so we have enough food, tshirts and goody bags. We really appreciate all of your support and you being registered helps us to bring you the best event possible - thanks again. See you guys Saturday. Jeff & John
  24. Drivers, It looks like the entire Station Fire area in the Angeles Crest will be undriveable for some time, so John and I have decided to do a loop via Castaic Lake and back for a bbq on Saturday Oct 3 at 8:30AM. Not as ideal as sriving in the Angeles Crest, but our options are limitied at this time. This will be 3 weeks before the meet, but a great chance to get together as the last warm up to the Meet in Woodley Park on Saturday, 10/24. If you register (or already have) for the Meet the bbq is free, otherwise we ask you donate $10/person for food. We will send time place and route details to those that are regiteres or have email us rsvp'ing with a $10/person pledge. Also! Carl Nelson from La Jolla independent, aside from his generous sponsorship of the Meet, has give us a very cool goodie bag item. We have those orange, under the hood decals that encourage owners to use Genuine BMW Parts (Teile) its the one that has 'Achtung!' written in the uper left corner....in your goodie bag! HOWEVER, we only have 100 of them, so the first hundred will receive them - and we have 35 drivers already registered.....so, register now, and we'll go out via Castiac in a couple of weeks and have a bbq....! Thanks Jeff & John
  25. Drivers, Hope you are having a safe and fun holiday weekend. After gathering up information, we are rescheduling the Angeles Crest Drive & BBQ for Saturday, October 3. Again, if you are registered for the 2009 Meet, there is no charge for the Drive & BBQ, so please register at socalvintagebmw.com if you plan on attending. If you only want to participate in the BBQ, a $10 donation is requested. We anticipate that the fire situation will be well in hand by then and that the roads in the National Forest will be amenable to our drive. We will continue to monitor the situation. Now for the BIG NEWS! Both Bimmer Magazine and Bring a Trailer have come on board to be Media Sponsors for the 2009 SoCal Vintage BMW Meet! Both of these entities are instantly recognizable, and we are very honored and privileged to have these two outlets - covering the print and online audience respectively - to help promote and cover our event for their readership. We can't wait to show them how we do a Vintage BMW Meet SoCal Style The Meet is only 6 weeks away! If you plan on attending please register at your earliest convenience - the sooner we have an accurate head count, the easier it is for us to forecast and plan things such as food, tshirts, goodie bag items and so on. Your early registration really helps us out - thank you. Look forward to seeing you all on Oct 3 for the BBQ and Oct 24 for the MEET! Best Always John & Jeff
