  1. Cool. Thanks for that. Anyone know how it is done for those of us who do not have a couple hundred quid to spare or access to a rolling machine.
  2. Nice Car. Rather similar to mine. I think I must be only a couple of steps ahead of you. I have my megasquirt in the car running only the timing at this stage. My Dizzy must have been shot because the performance imporved considerably and the engine is much much much smoother. Cant wait to get the fueling sorted and say good bye to my single barrel solex. + I agree, the stim is very important.
  3. I was looking into this a while ago. I found some archived threads explaining the process to feed oil into the chain tensioner and release the bubles of air. Kinda like bleeding the system. Have yet to do it myself.
  4. Actually what is normal asking price for a M10 in the U.S? Here in NZ it about 300NZD for a e30 318m10 150-200km engine long block. 2002, e21 engines vary hugely due to history. 50NZD for a boat anchor and up. I have access to a 100NZD e21 m10 with unknown history. Im debating the long drive to pick it up. I have no need to build a new engine this year. Ill start on a turbo project next year and cant decide if i should start early parts collecting?
  5. Thats about 300US is it not? that does not sound to unreasonable providing its in good nic. To be honest im going the FI route so have no interest in this engine. Just posted for amusement. Its BMW built and not a conversion (i think) If I had a boat in need of a 130hp internal engine I would buy it because im already used to the engine. But I dont have a boat

  7. I think he is running MSI with spark software. not MSII like myself unfortunatly
  8. I am nearing the first step in completion of my megsquirt setup. I still trying to figure out the tuning side of things. I was hoping there was someone out there ahead of me that has a mostly complete configuration file for a bone stock 2002 engine running msII V3. Id like to avoid mucking round for half a week before it fires up. if you can help could you please send to cowlum at xtra.co.nz regards
  9. I agree with plsoan. You can build a modest turbo'd engine on a budget for far less than 4K. I have been studying into this for some time and will begin the project in about a year. I already have a megasquirt (MS2,cable,relay) and all intake parts including alt, totalled $1100NZ (thats ~$550us). I will be looking for smaller numbers such as 150 at the flywheel, Mostly doing it for the learning process. but nice to give the car a little more punch. My brother had a turbo manifold built for his fiat. It cost $500NZ built by a prof, I dont know what steel its made of but its been going strong for 2 years now and I would expect it to last well past its being replaced in favor of the next crazy scheme. I often bump into these guys at the local bmw wreckors who simply slapped a turbo on the side of their m10 318 e30 and away they went . (The doubt the thing makes great figures but its still running strong) all in all. for 4K (8knz) you would end up with a very very powerful + reliable turbo engine.
  10. cool! Good on ya. I remeber that day for me. When I got my one just about nothing worked. Then 6-8 months later she fired up blowing enough smoke to cover the house (im not kidding, I smoked screened an entire house). Now 4 years later its low stiff and 50% they way through megasquirt install. I managed to hold onto my 2002 through all sorts of life events (many house moves, an OE etc). Love it every time a mile stone is acheived. Just cant wait for the FI. congrats of the first 9 miles!!
  11. For the benifit of newbs to such technical things as cylinder reading. Could some one please describe waht they can see in these pictures (honing marks, general wear and tear). Thanks.
  12. Could people with 3 bar fuel pressure reg please post their bosch part number so when I go down to a non pick a part wrecking yard I get the right one. Thanks heaps.
  13. Hey good to see another kiwi. What was the purpose in the e30 dizzy? I just about went link also! but at last minute changed my mind. What injectors have you used (did they come off of a common car found in new zealand)?
  14. How easy depends on how much you need to learn. If you are a Mechanical/electrical genius then easy as. If you have access to a wreckers yard then even easier. I am about 1/2 way through now and I would say it has not been to difficult. just time consuming.
  15. How can i find out the fuel what pressure my fuel regulator is set to. it is bosch part number 280 160 225 It came with a e30 318 inlet manifold stamped 84. I cannot work out if it is a 2.5 or 3 bar. Does any one know where I can find a data sheet for bosch fuel regs? I have attached a good data sheet for injectors. Was hoping to find something similar. For the injectors I found some 280 150 201 236cc@3bar low impedance injectors. Could any electrical genius confirm that one of these resisters per injector in series will suffice to raise them to high impedance. http://www.rsnewzealand.com/cgi-bin/bv/rswww/searchBrowseAction.do?D=resister%20%2220%20watt%22%20&Nr=AND%28avl%3anz%2csearchDiscon_nz%3aN%29&Ntk=I18NAll&Nty=1&Ntt=resister%20%2220%20watt%22%20&Dx=mode%20matchpartial&Ntx=mode%20matchpartial&N=0&name=SiteStandard&forwardingPage=line&R=2508909292&callingPage=/jsp/search/search.jsp&BV_SessionID=@@@@0105814007.1168653156@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdeaddjldeldjfcefeceeldgkidhgm.0&cacheID=nznetscape cheers
  16. It rides very well. The springs and shocks were designed for heavier cars so its pretty stiff, i have no worrys about bottoming out.
  17. More free parts They are just some generic toyota mag from the mid 90s i think. The offset is not quite right and requires a spacer in the front. Ive seen them on many corollas here in NZ. They are good for now but I do intend to find somthing thats really period.
  18. Yeah. but you can see why im indecisive. I think Ill raise the rear a tad for now and continue saving for the coilovers after the megasquirts complete and the panal/paints done.. thanks
  19. yeah the second pick is accelerating. but thats what concerns me. I think it dips too low when the back end is stressed. Ill try a spacer and see what happens.
  20. I think ill try to raise the rear 1/2 an inch with a metal spacer between the shock itself and the rubber chassis mount. The rear shocks have plenty of stem or whatever its called (the thin threaded bit that pokes up through the chasis). The setup was just put together with bits and peices lying around. Besides my qualms with it being very low it works splendidly for driving. Very solid but does not jar the vehicle. It actually rides much better than I had hoped. The rear has some heavy modern fiat springs (curtesy of one of my brothers many parts cars) and the shocks themselves are from a van 8$nz (4$us) from a pick and pull, almost brand-new. The fronts have fiat springs again (croma i think) with rx7 inserts free but in good condition (more spares) with the shafts lathed down 1 inch.
  21. Just posting for opinions. I am very happy with the ride but do worry the car looks a little low now. I must point out the car does not get used for errands. It only gets used for fun and hopefully track days sometime soon (when the megasquirt is up and running).
  22. Take a look at the 'third picture in' on the top row. Id say their machine press needs re-alligning. http://www.bmwheritage.com/pages/models_2002.html
  23. Does anyone have a link to the original article? I have searched and even the mighty google has fallen. Im sure there was a pdf floating around a couple of years ago!! I NEED my 2002 fix while my car is having a brain transplant (read megasquirt)
