I own a US spec 91 E30 318i sedan. The US spec 1991 four door E30 318i came with the M42 motor. The US market never received the M40 that came in the Euro E30 318i sedan and the Euro sedan's didn't receive the M42, only Euro coupe models received the M42. My 318i is an original So Cal car, bought from the original owner in 2006 with 118K miles for $1.2K. The DiamondSchwarz paint is toast but it's rust free and never been hit. The original vinyl interior has been replaced with an oxblood red leather interior. Plans are to repaint in the original color in the next year or two. Upgrades include 15X7 ET26 wheels, Supersprint cat back exhaust, Conforti chip, H&R springs/swaybars, Koni sport shocks, new bushings, LSD, M-Tech2 steering wheel. To enjoy a M42 powered vehicle is to drive it like you stole it. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Four door practicality with a much lower price compared to the 318is coupe.
