whats a good service manual for a 1972 bmw 2002?

manual...the originals came in a blue binder and show up on e-bay and the FAQ periodically but are pricy...

Unfortunatley Bentley never did a 2002 manual, because their E30 and other later manuals are very good.

I think they're available on a CD--someone on the board will know where. I'm old fashioned and use a paper manual.

cheers

The Haynes manual that I just got is a lot better (more details, better pics) than my Chilton. The Chilton has more wiring schematics, although smaller (ie- tiny).

As you start collecting per CD's direction, some things to get you started

1. You can still get owner's manuals from Jaymic in the UK, Haynes you can get many places

2. The Tii registry has a downloadable parts manual with original parts numbers

3. You can use RealOEM and Maximillian Importing parts diagrams as these usually have the latest part numbers

4. There was a downloadable service manual on the net but someone else will need to refresh my memory where it is located

5. Get very familiar with how to search on the FAQ

6. Collect the diagrams CD poasts as they usually have added nuggets of wisdom on them

Oh, man, just when the couple documents I have made me believe that I pretty well had it all, c.d.iesel shows about 30 other manuals/pubs that I don't. Now I'm back to novice! (Wait, I am one.)

"Fiona" 1969 2002 Driver up for sale (sigh)

"Clarabell" 1980 Honda CX 500

2004 Pontiac GTO

and many more orphans up for adoption

Haynes, Chilton, Clymer, Macartney restoration book, and the blue book bmw manuals are all useful in their own way. I find the Macartney book very useful for lots of things, although its really not a service manual. If you do some searching, I think someone previously posted a link to a source for a free download of bluebooks. The bluebooks are by far the best service manual.

Good luck.
