Sorry to disagree, nbcbird, but 1968 (the year the 2002 was introduced) plus 25 years equals 1992. These pieces are not that old.

The keyfob was part of an entire catalog collection of BMW 2002-related gifts and accessories issued in 2002 to celebrate the BMW model number and year number coincidence. I have a copy of the catalog in my "stash of cool BMW stuff." Also, as I recall, I received one of those fobs in the mail from BMW NA merely because I owned a 2002 in the year 2002.

I got mine back in 2002 also from BMW NA. I don't remember if I had to apply for it or not. It was free.

I wasn't on the BMWCCA list and I got one.

I received a letter first, from BMWNA, asking for confirmation of my ownership of a BMW 2002.

When I responded positively, I got a nice keychain a few weeks later. Amongst other things.
