tires for bottlecaps 14"

I have some bottlecaps I would like to put on my 72 2002. I wanted to see what size would be best, so there is no rubbing and so the tires don't look granny style. Looking for more race style. (ex. 195/65/14R or 205/60/14R, etc.). Even though I know the bottlecaps are not racey. I know someone would have to correct me.

Also, I wanted to see what tire would be best for the price. I would like to spend around $60-70 per tire. Looking for performance at an affordable price, obviously.

Thanks

I will take myself off air to wait for the response.

I have seen people put in 205-55-14 but that's a very odd size tire and hard to find. A 206-60-14 will rub.

Check out the tire racks for tires.

195/60/14 and you'll be happy with any of these:

Sumitomo HTR 200 $48

Sumitomo HTR H4 $50

General Altimax HP $57

Kumho Solus KR21 $57

Click the Tirerack link from here and get your car some new shoes!

I've had the HTR 200s and was happy and I've got the Solus KR21s on my Mazda right now. I'm certainly happy with them, also. With the Solus, stick to the KR21s as other tires in the Solus series are not as well reviewed.

Good luck and let us know what the decision is!

you'll like the look of 195 / 60 x 14" but some might

touch the tie-rod end lightly - but give you the fatty look,

cushy ride, big nutt-bold stance your seeking.

BUTT 185 / 60 x 14" is the mann's tyre for performance, no touching,

light crisp steering, easier parking steering effort - especially

if you have a smallish steering wheel.

any of the above mentioned brands (better grip in rain)

and BLACK bottlecaps are the bomb.

I have 14" Goodyear eagles I think they are the 195/65 and they have a tiny rub on the right rear on a heavy left, they just touch the inside wheel well by the tie down ring on the inside edge of the tread. I hammered it a little and am satisfied that there is no issue with tire damage. I have had them on for around 3 or 4 months now and I love the way the 14s feel vs the old 13s. Much firmer and the extra rubber really gives the car a better hight since I also lowered the car. It does throw the speedo off like 8%. Some folks get a rub on the front struts too. Of course a spacer can help but that takes up clearence on the outside.

I second Matthew's recommendations. Be aware that most used bottlecaps come with 195/65 14 from their prior E30 servitude. They fit on an 02, but they don't look quite right (too tall). I've never had problems with 195/60s rubbing. I put 195/60 14 Generals on my last tii and liked them a lot.

If the car is lowered, I might go 185s in the front, 195s in the rear... All-around if you don't want to deal with the staggered-size headache. And Wurth Wheel Paint is the stuff to get to paint your bottlecaps. Then some Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic over that.
