Turbo Megasquirt EDIS 2.1L Forged M10 build-up. IT'S ALIVE!

Beautiful head Turb02! I've gotten the turbo ready to install. I've clocked the housings, installed the drain for 5/8" copper, the supply for 3/16" copper, and a nipple for the wastegate actuator. I had to fix the "Swedish feature" which is the circular-peg-in-a-square-hole style turbine flange. It will now fit on a regular T3 manifold which is good because that's what I have.

You can see the flange before the fix here:

After the torching/welding/grinding. We'll see if it seals ;)

Electrically, it is ready to run. The dizzy is only there for the test firing. I have done all the fab work to get the snail mounted, after which I will try to fire it, then hook up the EDIS. That little bundle of three wires right behind the dizzy is the EDIS wiring waiting to be hooked up to the coils. You can also see my brass oil tee assembly with the VDO pressure sender already attached. The 3/16" oil supply will come from here. As some may have seen from my other thread(s), I had to move the radiator over to get an electric fan to fit. I have a pic of that jus to show exactly how far I had to move it. Better pics will come when I mount the Zirgo. It's a tight fit!

he has given the rad a name....

Haha I was waiting to see if anyone would catch that.

I started the engine yesterday! I was having a serious problem trying to get the injectors to fire during cranking (and running- with the stim). After trying all kinds of ideas, turns out the problem was the initial barometric correction freature was telling MS that I was at 4000 feet below sea level, which "corrected" my fueling to 0%. I simply turned off that feature and it worked.

My problem thread on MSefi

Other than that, since the last pics were taken, I have installed the cooling system (minus the turbo cooling), the turbo itself, the compressor-to-intercooler charge pipe, the oil line to the turbo, and almost finished the oil drain. I had to go AN-10 for the oil drain because the huge 5/8" copper was too stiff to do what I wanted it to do. Even with the AN stuff it isn't easy because the hose connections are so huge. I will have to use a zig-zag at the bottom to get around the manifold. I should finish that tomorrow and begin to tune the engine. Pics (possibly video) will come at that time!

So today I got the engine started and idling after finishing the turbo coolant lines and oil drain. It sounds like a healthy beast. No weird noises or anything. I already took out the coil/dizzy and am working on installing the EDIS coil packs. That should be pretty straightforward.

PICS:

A good 1/2" clearance between the thermostat and the manifold.

Clearances are tight... The coolant hose is touching the charge pipe. You can see how close the AN fittings come to everything else.

This has been a fun project. Now I just have hours and hours of tuning to do.

Good job. Will you wrap the dump pipe and/or protect the spark plug leads? Any close ups of the fan and cooler in position?

Yes I do plan on wrapping the dump pipe. The distributor is already out so hopefully I can set up the EDIS wires to avoid the pipe. I will get close ups of the fan as soon as it is installed. It does fit though, I swear :)

It's been a while since I've been on this thread. Of course I have gotten the EDIS running. It worked first try, I just hooked up the wires and started it lol (mounted the coil pack to the firewall). I also got the tach working using the diagram below. The car spins tire(singular) through 3rd in the dry and gets sideways in 5th on the wet interstate, so I really need to install the LSD and get bigger/better tires. Also, I have Bosch 42# injectors on the way, and I'm trying to acquire an m30 automatic throttle body with TPS (just running MAP right now and could use some throttle response), and figuring out the best way to regulate fuel pressure in another thread. After the injectors go in, I can up the boost from 7 to at least 15psi. I'll grab some pics of everything as I install it and post up. Trying to get this thing ready for Bimmerfest.

As promised, here are the pictures of everything as it sits. I just installed the Bosch 42# (440cc) injectors and a new copper oil supply line with flare fittings instead of compression. This should be way more reliable. You can also see how I mounted the EDIS coil to the firewall.

And someone asked for a pic of the fan mounting. I know it's a little small but I need to do some serious surgery to the front end (ie. completely cut it up and move the intercooler/radiator and redo the charge pipes to accomodate) so it will do for now. You can also see the OBX-R (AEM duplicate) fuel filter I just installed down on the frame rail by the BOV.

I also installed a Greddy style catch can. You can see how perfect the plug wire lengths were (from a stock escort):

42# injectors:

Mounted the MS and JAW with some velcro as well as mount the display to a piece of redwood:

I know, I know, I still need to clean up the wiring. Too much other stuff to do!

Please ask any questions or post any suggestions!
