differential problems limted slip

i bought 3.90 limted slip from this guy about 1 year ago paid 350$ for it .anyway just got the m2 running the car is still on jack stands .when i put it in 1st gear everything moved freely when i put it in 2nd and give it a little gas the rear end made a funny noise and locked up on me . i moved the wheels back and fouth and it freed up .started it again and did the same thing when i hit 2nd gear with a little gas .at idle it seems ok but when you give gas it locks up.so i pulled it out and took it apart dave varco said maybe a broken spider gear . all the bearings feel good and all the gears look good no chips anywhere and the oil looked good . anybody know anything about theses clutch packs could that lock it up ?? i called the guy i got it from he clams because i let it sit for a year

I CANT OFFER ANY ADVICE AS IM NOT WELL VERSED ON LSD'S. BUT theres no way letting it sit for a year hurt it unless it sat on the bottom of the seabed for a year. be sure and let us know who the seller is if he doesnt make it right

blunt he's some local jerk the auto parts guy gave me his name said he had a 02 with some good parts he was parting out . do they have a rebuild kit for these limited slip units and can you get me one if thats whats wrong with it

cost wise you might be better off just grabbing one of the units from terry51 in the for sale section. ive bought from him and hes a straight shooter.

I had a similar problem with an auto car years ago, water got into the tranny (somehow) it was fine in 1st, when it changed up to 2nd, it locked up. The water affected the clutch packs in the tranny - had to rebuild the tranny.

Look for rust marks on all surfaces, that could be the cause of your problem.

the clutches themsleves has nothing to do with you lock-up effect, in fact, all the inard could be totaly welded up and you could still drive the car.

Id rather check the crown/pinion gears.

I had a very bad experience with my first rebuild, there was one of the crown gear nut that got unscrewed, so it locked into the casing.

I dont see theses on your picture.

Any foreign debris into these gears will lock the diff as well (not allowing you to go ahead).
