1600-2 caliper question

caliper, your front brakes are going to be WAY out of balance (the surface area of an E21 pad is almost double the size of an early '02 pad, so you'll probably have a massive pull to the side that has the E21 caliper on it). Also, the brake line attaches to the E21 caliper differently than it does to an '02 caliper, so you'll probably have an interference problem between the brake line fitting and the strut housing if you try to attach the flex line directly to the E21 caliper.

For what it's worth, using '77 E21 vented rotors and calipers on early single-circuit brake cars is by far the easiest way to get a "big brake" upgrade on the front of an early car. You'll need to have the '77 rotors turned down (both the outer circumference and the hat) to clear the caliper (Ireland Engineering can supply rotors already turned to size), and you'll need to fabricate a bracket to use the E21 rigid brake line that connects the brake hose to the flex line, but other than those two changes, it's a straight forward bolt on.

If you want to go "big brake" all the way around, add 320 rear brakes (drums, shoes, cylinders and backing plates) and a 320 m/c and you've transplanted a complete 320 brake system to your 1600.......
