Hi all,

Just letting you know that Rudy's new baby took precedence over the 1600, so he decided to sell it (um...the car, not the baby) and I am now the lucky owner. This is my first BMW but not my first vintage car (lots of Alfas, a Volvo p1800, Datsun Roadster, etc.). This 1600 is a *great* car, and I intend to do no 'mods' to it unless they improve safety, originality, or longevity. A little extra power might be nice but I'll see what I can do with the stock setup first.

So far I've spent some time on the brakes, which were acting up quite a bit. The driver side front and rears were both dragging due to stuck cylinders and pistons, to the point where the car would overheat. With a little cleanup and lube they are now working as they should but I've purchased replacements for both in case they are truly shot.

In the meantime, the brake booster basically quit, so whenever I hit the brakes the car would stall. Today I replaced the whole booster system (which was original to the car including the hose, yikes!), and it seems to be doing fine now.

I also got a set of Euro turn signals and replaced the windshield washer pump. Needless to say, in the short time I've had the car I've already become a regular at 02 Salvage in Hayward.

I'll post pics of the car as my work on it progresses.

Was that car originally from Livermore? If so, I went to Livermore high with his daughter(original owner). It's been missing the turn signals since '85 or '86. I had a '68 2002.

cool you got the car .. sounds like it found a good home (and no baby vomit on it yet)

Man its kind of interesting how now cars have history on the web rather than in papers in the glove box. Maybe print these pages out and include them with the car -- so in another 40-50 years some other owner can read over them and have a full account of the car after the first owner.

Assuming the FAQ isn't still up and running in 2077.

good luck with it!
