Whats the best e30 forum? I just got a e30 325is and I need some info on eliminating wheel noise - I think the wheel bearing on the drivers side front is pooping out. before i spend 100 bucks on a freakin bearing I need to explore some other options. For those of you who like to use this suggestion - I did use the search with no avail.

bullet with the front wheel bearing. I've had to do it on two of the three E30's I've owned.

They go bad about once every 100K miles, which is not bad.

Jack it up, grab the wheel at the top and bottom and see how much it moves on the vertical plane (in and out). A bad bearing will give you a very noticeable amount of play and probably even sound kind of like a knock as you rock it back and forth.

Hey Pat, Welcome to the E30 fold. They're great cars! A good way to check is noise on a hard right turn is the left bearing & vice-versa. However, that's just what I've been told. My '91 318ic has 160K and still has the originals.

If the bearing dies completely the wheel will "fold" some but probably wil not come off. You should have substantial knocking at all speeds and all directions of travel just before the bearing dies.

This board is awesome. Based on what you have said, it is def. the drivers side wheel bearing. looking at the assembly - do I need any special tools for this? It almost looks bolt on.

R/Ring the bearing races can and usually does turn into wrestlemania 6. The best thing to do is take the hubs to a shop with a press and have them do the races, everything else is a simple o2esque procedure.

The o2 in me comes out. It looks like you have to replace the whole hub on that car in which case yes it is very simple make sure it comes with the seals.

Okay - so if it comes with the hub attached, do I need studs? It looks like e30s have studs instead of lug nuts - is this a correct assumption? i'd look but I'm at work.
