buying my first '02 and driving home this weekend!

Hello all!

I've been a lurker on this board for the past couple years, quietly learning

everything I can about 02's while I search for my first.. Well the stars have

aligned , my wife said yes, and I have purchased my first 2002.

It's a 1969 granada, 135k miles, rust free,

(previously owned by a well-known faq'er) in

the Los Angeles area. This weekend I'll be flying in with my dad (wife

didn't want to go) and driving it back the 24 hours to Calgary. Pretty easy

directions, get on the I15 and head north through Las Vegas, Salt Lake city, etc.

I'm very excited to get my first '02.. It will seem like a rocket compared to

my daily driver, an 84 toyota 4x4 diesel hilux pickup, with a whopping 76hp.

I'll take some pics on the way and post how the trip went..

Fingers crossed for no snow. Wish me luck!

Graeme

i drove my 76 across the country trice, and once i drove her through the "blizzard of 96", where if I ever stopped going forward, I would never move again.

the 02 is a terribly reliable car - she won't let you down.. and you can top 100 easy out there in the middle of the US! nice!

You have your spares and tool kit all ready?

Not to worry,

It is something very rare that would leave an 02 on the side of the road for any length of time. Just about anything can be fixed with the minimal amount of tools.

Bring beer.

Hello,

I'm sure you have checked out the import/export issues. Just in case, the last time I looked into shipping a car from the US to Canada I was warned that the paperwork (copy of sales/ownership...) had to arrive at the port of exit (ie, your intended border crossing) three days prior to your arrival. This was a US export requirment. This may have changed. You may want to check this out with the US authorities. IRC this was on their web site.

See www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/export/export_docs/motor_vehicle.xml section 192.2 C. 2. i.

Regards,

Simon
