I believe that he welded large washers to the tranny tunnel. Will have to check it when it comes down from the lift.

My mechanic dabbles in fabrication work as well. It was his idea to build the stiffer brace. If you look at it, the horizontal piece actually has a slant to it. This was done to allow him to add a second mount on the left side beneath brace and tied to the tranny via a bolted on bracket. I'll try to get a pick of that as well when I return to the shop.

Windy day for pictures today......

Exhaust fabbed last week. Requires some adjustment in the rear as they didn't leave enough room for the gas tank to drop in. Goes back to exhaust shop on Monday for slight modification. Seats are being done by T&C Auto Upholstery and they are coming along nicely. Hope to hear it fire in a couple of weeks.

Interesting to read that. I went last year and had a nice time talking with Jonathan (jgmgti), John (John_in_VA) and others while I was there. I took lots of pictures of Juanita and others to use as reference for when I put mine back together.

Yes, mine might fit in well once it is completed. However, my intent is to use this as a fun driver/ occasional show car. While the DM is a nice date to shoot for completion of the car, I am really looking forward to getting out and going on one of the fun runs with the local group.

Thanks for the encouragement and for the inspiration.

Wiring almost completed....still needs to be tucked up cleanly.

Should probably update the relays...

Cooling hoses in...had to be creative in some spots.

Tight fit....radiator is firmly mounted and sitting on poly mounts so there should be no contact with the engine.

Driveshaft back in place...

Shop should be focusing on fuel and brake lines this week.

Are you routing brake lines in a new direction, or do you have pre-bent?

I only ask because it looks like its going to be a tight fit to work around with the engine already in place!

By the way, what are those bars zip-tied to the radiator?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
