Starting Price?

Hello,

I’m curious to know what a good starting price would be to sell my 1976 BMW 02. I know it’s not very desirable in California due to the year. Not sure if I want to sell it either but I have considered it. Rust is fairly contained except I found the front passenger floor needs to be replaced, a small patch underneath the rear right passenger, and also an area that’s need patching under the gas pedal. Shock towers are good. Car runs and drives, unknown mileage. I threw away the old raggedy carpet and was planning to get a new one. Previous owner had it resprayed but you can definitely see some flaws in it. It has H&R lowering springs and I just bought GECKO coilovers for it and only have the rears installed. It also has some 16” SevenK forged wheels that retail around $3-4K. Recaro seats. LED bulbs all around with electronic flasher. Early (flush) turn signals. New battery. Gas tank was refreshed by previous owner. Cant really think of anything else at the moment. But yeah, looking for a price point if I do decide to sell. I would also sell without coilovers, and wheels (buyer would need to bring wheels if so).

I will upload all the pictures I have on me. Thanks!

Car looks great! Do you have anymore details to help us with the starting price? Is it still a 4 speed or upgraded to a 5 speed? Has anything else been done to the engine besides the dual webers? What does it have for a differential?

I would suggest trying to sell the nice wheels separately, as not everyone will want to go in that direction with the look of the car. It allows someone to have more of a blank canvas for the car, and you to get more value from the sale of the wheels separately.

@Squid's 02thank you! The car is basically stock besides dual Weber’s and still has the 4 speed. Not sure what the diff ratio but I imagine it is stock as well. I agree with you on the wheels, I kept them from my last car and just threw them on the 02 as the tires on the bottle caps were not driveable. Should’ve kept those wheels too but I don’t have them anymore. I wouldn’t be oppose to finding some bottle caps again to roll on. Thanks for the advice!

This probably wont make you very happy but it's my honest opinion.

First some background, I purchased a 76, 49 state 02 here in Oregon Jan 2019.

Trashed interior, disintegrating paint, leaky, noisy tired engine. rotten suspension rubber and leaking hydraulics, bashed right front fender. It needed pretty much everything.

But it's solid, very solid. I got lucky there. I paid $5500 for it.

Looking at your car, I just cant see it being worth more than that. Maybe 6-7K tops to a motivated buyer.

Lot of rust and lots of folks will view those screw on fender flares with distaste and suspicion .

And it is a 76 model in CA.

Cast your net wider than CA, advertise nationwide.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just to clarify if I did sell I would be posting nationwide. I was just stating that it’s not desirable in California due to its age. The original plan is to restore it slowly. I still love the car even though I have not driven it more than around my block. I think I’ll most likely keep it and keep working on it. My son is also waiting to ride in it but I won’t til I get the rust taken care of. Love the view when my garage opens up every time I get back from work so that’s worth noting ?
