DanJer extended control arms driving impression

Well I finally got to really put these through a great workout. I did take them to an autocross late last year, but it was so cold out the tires didn't have their usual grip. This Saturday was mild so I went out on a good backroad where could get some sustained spirited driving and build some heat in the tires. I must say I am very happy with them! The extra camber makes a noticeable improvement. Yes, overall grip is up, but the biggest thing I noticed was the increased confidence on corner entry, and then the increased front grip from more tire on the ground made for the ability to hold the line with steering input instead of letting off the gas to keep it from pushing and running wide.

In short, I really like them

Extra front camber is always good on radials.

On bias slicks, it's good right up until it skates, and then it's very, very uncomfortable.

It DOES reduce your total braking slightly, but more than makes up for it when you get

some lateral loading onto it.

The arms are also much stiffer and use rodends for the swaybar connection which removes even more flex.

I just ordered a pair of Danjer's extended control arms. Is replacing the ball joints a must-do while I'm in there? I don't think they've been replaced before.

Do they have any play in them?  If not, it’s totally up to you. If they do, replace.

There are two types of people. Those who replace everything in the vicinity they are working and the “don’t fix what isn’t broken” type. Either way is fine.

If the ball joints are original BMW they are riveted to the control arms.

Replacing the ball joints is the kind of job you only want to do once and they aren't very expensive. You can get Moog ball joints for $30 each from fcpeuro.com.

Thanks for the input, guys. I’m firmly in the “don’t spend more time under the car than I have to” camp, so I ordered a pair of moog units from blunt earlier this evening.

How have the control arms been treating you? Did you get some track time in this year?
