Seat FoldingIssue

Lots of spare time so I am determined to fix this vexing problem.  My seats fold forwardcrookedly!

 

I mounted the seat on my bench. 

All was good until I used the recline knob to change the recline.

They then folded forward crookedly ... again!

You can see from the picture that the angle of the hinges is different which must be the problem.

Should they be at 90 degrees at folding?

Thoughts?

I assume you had the hinges off the seat.

If you had the hinges off the seat as Hans mentioned above, and the hinges came loose from the torsion bar that connects 'em, that's your problem.  It's definitely not intuitive, but the hinges must be reattached to the torsion bar so they are not parallel to each other.  I found this out the hard way when I was messing with my '73's driver seat. 

 

PM me and I'll send you the column I did on the subject.  This is for roundie seats only; I don't have any experience with this problem on squarelight seats, but it may be true with them also.

I did remove them and reinstalled them at the same angle (parallel).
