CV joint boot kit (boot en clips only)

Hello,

 

I've been searching for a while now for a cv boot kit for my 02 and can't find one from a well known brand.

Spidan does offer a kit but it's with the metal flange. I'm after one without the flange, as I got mine replated and painted.

 

I tried ordering a kit BMW 2series kit from GKN/Löbro which had pretty close measurement but the lip on the bigger diameter doesn't fit the metal flange like it should.

 

Anyone that has some suggestions?

We use realoem.com to get part#s and to check if the parts are still available from BMW.  From realoem I understand that there is a "bellow" kit #33219067911 available.

Call your BMW dealer and give them the part#.

Edit:  I just googled the part#.  Many suppliers have the OEM kit.  Here's one:

Option 1 - If original boots are ok with no tear, then clean them up and reuse them with new boot clamps from this source or equivalent

Option 2 - buy aftermarket kit and use the boots, but replace clamps in the kit with the one provided link above. IMO boot clamps in the aftermarket kit are junk and will eventually cuts into the boots.

I don't know about you guys but I had a hard time finding a good quality vendor which offers a boot kit with only the boot and correct clamps.

 

After trying a boot kit for a 2 series, and a E21 (turned out those were to bit although most sites state that these should fit?) I order a set of Spidan boots which I randomly found.

They fit pretty good on the axles and disc/ring. With a little bit of vaseline they slid right on.

The clamps also fit good although the smaller one was a little bit harder to get on

I only had time to assemble one axle but I'm very pleased with the result.

No problem. I wanted to update this post since I had a hard time finding these so I'm sure there are other that had/are having the same problem.

 

As far as I know GNK, Spidan and Lobro are all the same.

Interesting- I've not seen the Spidan name over here.  

We're awash in faux- Germanic names stuck to Chinese

parts of wildly varying quality, so I've pretty much given up

on anything I've not heard of.

 

My latest favorite?  O.E.M.  It's a name, NOT a description...

GKN are a British engineering company that now own the companies  that originally made automotive CV joints (Birfield and Hardy Spicer) for the original Mini from 1959. They were very big in my home town of Birmingham, UK. 

 

Not saying that the boots are made in the U.K. but they do have a good heritage.
