Haven't looked up this VIN but a European 2002 would not have the license tag lights in the tail panel (but would be in the bumper). My US 69 2002 is 1666269.

GLWTS. Love the Bristol color on an early car.

Yeah, USA car per Macartney's book.

Cheers,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P

Rear bumper was changed  from a short  bumper to a long  many years ago   I can see the holes that were cut in   the side   of the rear qtr panel and  the long ends  added  but thx   for the info !! it definately had the  euro  frt turn sig lights  as they have the little 4 watt "city lights" inside  with a separate wire to them

That's the way BMW did the early Roundie TS lights. My 69 had the smooth lens lamps with two separate bulbs inside. One larger and one smaller.

it is a long  story too, long to write but i was told that  only  the totally original ones that came with a euro car  had these   and that if you broke one  and ordered it   from bmw  they sent you an amber    flush mount   but with no city lights  this is per 2002ad guys  but   who knows!

Yes- amber

Yes- flush lens (not bulged)

Yes- two bulbs

Yes- new amber flush turn signals from BMW only have 1 large bulb (I bought a set from Blunt).

No- having the flush TS lights with two bulbs does not mean it is a European model.

good grief- somebody buy this car.

This car is not for the faint of heart, it needs a total restoration from someone who has a parts stash or deep pockets.   As Jim said, someone needs to buy this car instead of the seller parting it out piece by piece. Finding an early model 02 in Bristol is almost unobtanium status.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
