Or down ........ It blinks " my directional s"

Strange ...... I swapped the arm?......

Sounds like the internal switch connections are worn out. Is it loose when lifting up or pushing down on lever arm?

Had the same problem with my '73...the lever wouldn't stay in place for a left turn unless you held it; right turn was OK.  It's actually a fairly easy repair--especially if you have a Dremel tool (but a small file will work)  if the same thing is wrong with yours that was with mine.  I did a Roundel column on the fix some years ago; drop me an e-mail with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of the column.
