engine and drivetrain Thrown Rod :( Advice needed

Worth fixing it or should I start searching for a new engine? What kind of costs am I looking at for either option?

Depends on what you want to spend, you could slop out and get a used motor for 500 or have one rebuilt for 4kish.

there is one in the ForSale board for 2500.

All up to you, you get to decide. careful as it is a Slippery Slope, you could always fali into the "while I am in there" mode and go crazy on a complete resto.....

If the rod ventilated the block, the engine is toast.

If the catastrophe didn't score the cylinder wall, it can be fixed, but your crank may be toast.

Otherwise, it's up to you--do matching numbers mean a lot to you? If so, rebuild your current engine. Otherwise...

Agreed, but if so it does open the door to various possiblilities. Stock 4 to V8 (think M60 to S62).

Try looking for a 77 320i block, same block, and better chance it will cost less.

this is the bottom of a stage2korman rebuild(after many miles),the motor is great I just need a headgasket.
