1974 2002 farm find

I have a long term project already with my 68 but I recently found this one for sale locally and couldnt pass it up. Thanks for reading and chime in with any 2002 advice that you feel like sharing or questions you may have.

So here we go:

It is a 1974 2002.(non TII) Not sure why it had the emblem. It has a sunroof, behr a/c, 4 speed, original paint, and has been sitting for quite a while. I just started cleaning it up and hope to make it a daily driver within the next couple months. It has some surface rust... but nothing too bad yet. Im surprised considering it has been next to a barn and then under a tree for several years.

What Ive done so far: Moved the car, registered it, and ive done a LOT of cleaning.

This is where the car had been parked for many years

Once the car was at my house i realized how dirty it was. This is how it looked after I rinsed off the car.

The before pictures:

It was a little dirty! The seats are pretty shot. They had sheep skins on them but were starting to fall apart. The headrestshave some discoloring from the sunroof being open. So they all came off to be cleaned. I may end up looking for some e30 sport seats or some older recaro seats to replace them. The console had been taken apart to replace a stereo but they never finished. The stereo was too big for the space behind the console anyway, so I removed it for now.

I had tro try out a few test spots of polishing. It was too cold even in the garage to work very well. It shows some potential.

After some some late night cleaning I put the interior back together for the inspection at DMV.

DMV is only a block from our house. and since the car isnt running I pushed it there. This didnt seem like a big deal until I got it to DMV. I wish I had a picture... I was exhausted! But after the inspection, I pushed it home. It didnt get pushed back into the driveway!

Im liking the color more and more as I work on it.

I didnt get around to pulling the motor due to all of the holiday stuff going on. But I did a little work on some rust in the spare wheel well.

It was looking pretty rusty

Once most of the rust was wired off I sprayed it with some rust treatment and let it work for a while.

Then I used a KBS rust paint to finish it up. I still have a little more to do painting.

It looks pretty good down here... but I have some cleaning to do before I find out if I can see any daylight .

This is awesome! I can't wait to see what will become of it. Looks like you've got a nice, unmolested '74. I'm astonished at the pollution control, Solex 32/32 and original air cleaner and even heater box, I seldom see any of those anymore nonetheless together. I love the color!

I went to see it and I took a few pictures. The more I looked at the pictures... The more I knew I couldn't resist. I'm pretty happy with it!

On a side note: Last week I recieved the title for the car in the mail. I was pretty excited until I realized that it read"1974 FORD"!? I was pretty confused. After all the paperwork and the visual inspection of the car after I pushed it there... they still got it wrong. LOL So I went back to DMV(without the car) and luckily one of the ladies who was working on the day that I pushed the car in remembered me and wrote a statment of facts to get the title changed. If she had not remembered me... the car would have had to make a trip back to DMV again to get the change made. Dont get me wrong, it was great exercise... but Im pretty sure im still sore!

I see an AC system! Do you plan on getting that working or just ripping it out? Mine has the BEHR, which still holds R12 and in turn spits ice water. If the components aren't in too bad of shape, I'd suggest you keep them and replace the hoses as needed. It's very nice to have on hand.

Looking good! I'm subscribed to this, can't wait til' you get a new engine in there :)

Thanks for the advice. I think the a/c will stay. Ive never had a car with a/c until my 95 mercedes wagon. Since it gets pretty warm here it would be nice to have. The replacement engine is a good low mileage engine out of my 76 and I have kept it in stored and taken good care of waiting for a project to come along. So now I get to use it. I have a lot to do on this car but I finally made a check list today and I think it will help me stay on task and get this car on the road soon.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
