Head bolts and locktite

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm ready to install my head, and was wondering if you use locktite on the head bolts. I'm thinking not since you re-tourque after the first start-up, and that would break the locktite.

Also on the re-torque after start-up, I know there's some torque angle specified in the BMW manual. Do folks just re-torque to the last torque setting?

Thanks!

DEAR GOD, NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Well, actually, the loctite probably wouldn't set till you were done.

But the next person to pull it would be confused...)

And yeah, the latest version (even from BMW now) has

a preliminary torque, then a couple of degree measures.

It works better.

...and those of us who are too cheap to buy the right thing

use something made of a degree wheel and a

breaker bar. If you're a bit creative and careful,

it works pretty well...

How many degrees after initial torque?
