  1. No. Needs strip and respray. There was nothing inferior about any BMW paints, they were equal to any other manufacturer. All metallics were clear coated, '60s vintage included.
  2. and took a few detail pics. You could click my website url below then click seatbelts link.
  3. He who has bench needs engine hoist too. And when you're old like me you'll need a thousand square foot garage to house your tools and toys.
  4. No need for disassembly. It's just pressed in.
  5. So if it's not repairable, and nla, what's it worth?? I've had several requests and no sales, so I must be overpricing them. If most of us did not ignore Rob's sticky to post prices and locations, we'd all have a better feel for fair pricing. Why do so many of us say "email me" instead of "it costs $XX.XX"??
  6. I think you're worrying too much. The pics show rotten boots. If there's no pulling, no leaks, your seals are ok, and the bores are probably ok. Get a rebuild kit and change the boots. While you're at it, may as well replace seals too.
  7. before 'cause I can't say it any better than Esty did. But now I must say that we old guys never put bondo over paint, never. Also start with grease and wax remover, then do it again.
  8. meaning rust patina after a few days. Paint would have to be heat resistant, in the color of your choice. Why not be creative?
  9. Green is usually front fog lamps, not used in cars with pull out dash switch, amber for rear glass defog. I'm not familiar with head light washers or rear fog lamps. Don't have any green, but do have red and amber and can post pics of wire connectors if needed. Also have e21 which looks similar but mounts differently. The screw in buttons should be interchangable. Who has green? Anyone know that gauge cluster? Looks great!
  10. Door skin is the outside of shell with the mouldings and chrome handle stuck on. If the inner door trim panel is loose, that's a sure sign of water damage. First thing to do is apply water to outside of rolled up door glass and watch the bottom of door. You want to see water pouring out the drains, not dripping off trim panel. If you need to replace the vapor barrier, be aware that most guys do it wrong. It must be water tight except around the lock push rod.
  11. How does the motor sound with linkage disconnected??
  12. Battery cables. If it was alt. car would run on battery, if battery it would run on alt.
  13. He did the best he could with ill-fitting parts. Notice that the goal was correct grill opening shape. That done the fender top had to be adjusted down. Blame goes to fender quality control which is much worse now than when the cars were new. They were all welded and leaded. Brass and bondo are repairs. Nothing wrong with bondo.
  14. Where's the evidence that it needs to be pulled? I don't see a problem. You'll cut the rust away when you do the flares.
  15. 1. "1/16" bondo" is nothing, but he seems to be saying its had a major rear crash repair. 2. "did not pull". You need to assess the rear end collision damage before the old repair was done. Start with the bottom. Looking up past the rear axles, see the curved part of floor. Unless it's a '67 there will be box section frame rails at the sides. Buckles in these frame rails are hard to fix. Also check for bucking of the inner side of the wheel hose. Inside the trunk look for wavy 1/4 panels to the sides and behind the center of shock tower. 3. How can it have a rear crash repair and "original paint"? 4. "Flares not close to fitting". If the car looks reasonably straight and the flares don't fit, you need other flares. 5. "It will take a year" means it will be used as fill in when business is slow. I always had a project like that on the go, but the customer was always fully informed. Major body work needs good communication between owner and repairer. Sorry, I don't get LMAO. IMHO if it's a '74-'76 and the frame rails are badly bent, and the flat sheet 1/4 reinforcements have come loose, it's a bad investment. Photos would be helpful.
