  1. I'd like the m10 water pump, if it fits a 72 tii; also the e30 basketweave center caps; also interested in misc outer 2002 lights and reflectors depending on condition (yellow and red ones on sides and back). 'll look through the interior bits and engine misc bits when Im there as well.
  2. Sorry to hear. I got taken by someone on FB for $100. I feel your pain.
  3. That’s what I’m doing. I got them as a long term temporary solution. Wanted 14” tires minimum for better selection. Running 195/50/14 Falken Azenis tires. This is as it sits with stock height suspension. That will change soon. and yes, I painted them a darker color to hide imperfections lol. Copper inspired by M4 GTS wheels.
  4. Thanks for this extra info. On my list to tackle on my 72 as well. Appreciate it.
  5. Added ground for instrument cluster, thanks to the very clear instructions I found here (search term “cluster grounding”)!
  6. SOLD Stock steelies and hub caps from 1972 tii. They appear straight visually and drove fine. Lemmerz 1334, manufacture date 11/71. Tires not included (dryrot). I’ll remove before shipping. Prefer local pick up but will ship at buyers expense. apologies, wheels and hubcaps were dirty when I took the photos. I can provide any additional photos or info as requested.
  7. While I wait for parts I took to cleaning the tool kit I found amongst the trash in the trunk. cleaned up ok for a first (possibly only) pass, all by hand. Soaked in vinegar 24 hours, then scrubbed with metal brush. note the effect of the rust:
  8. Small project today: refreshed the faded hood badge. Was completely silver. Repainted it. I used engine paint I already had. Took about an hour.
  9. Thanks! I’m like you. At the moment the car needs lots of attention. First priority is getting it properly roadworthy and other than the center link everything else in steering area looked solid. Rubber boots will give out eventually given their age but that’s not a primary objective. A reliable canyon driver is first priority. so fixing certain things come first: sloppy steering, sloppy shifting, loopy idle, brakes. And replacing rubber fuel and brake lines. then second priority: suspension upgrades and the rest of steering stuff (tie rods, bushings), interior bits like tach and fuel gauge that don’t work. then on and on.
  10. Thanks Mike. Yes, for sure alignment in order when replacing those parts. I expect to do the work myself, except the alignment. Even when I used to race I never liked doing my own alignments lol. Good to know about the bushing tool. Do you happen to have photos of that in action?
  11. Thanks Jim. I was definitely looking at replacing the fuel hoses. I think I figured out 3 meters will suffice. In that regard, in trunk I noticed the rubber fuel lines connect to clear plastic lines. Do the clear plastic ones also get replaced or only the hoses? Cooling system hoses feel good, compliant, and also look pretty new (most of them). I do have receipts for cooling work from PO but car sat for 10 years (driven 1000 miles or so in 10 years) so even if it was new when parked its now 10 years old. I'll get to them too though for sure. Prioritizing what I attack first. Engine isnt running smoothly so that and suspension is first. Fuel lines equally important. Thanks for noticing! Appreciate it. I'll adjust first chance I get.
  12. New to me 1972 2002tii. Tennessee car originally. Third owner. quite a lot of play in the steering wheel. Checked up front and found massive play in what I think is the center link. See photo. the castle but on top does not move but the ball joint (?) moves about 1/8” up and down. See the gap? That’s near bottom. I can push it to meet the other surface. i can’t figure out how to load a video but I have video of the play and the whee play. this is the part with play, not the tie rod ball joint.
  13. Thanks Steve! I was wondering what that reservoir was!
  14. Funny, there’s a hose attached to the valve cover at the valve cover. Must be broken under intake or something. That’s where I thought it should have gone lol. thanks!
  15. As I’m getting to know my new ‘72 2002tii I'mi starting to see things. my airbox has two nipples where hoses should go, but are missing. One large, about same size as PVC line, the other much smaller. From looking at a bunch of photos it looks like the smaller one goes to somewhere behind the engine. Also found two nipples coming through the firewall almost directly behind the engine, one missing a hose. I assume the smaller of the airbox hoses goes here. Can someone confirm, and if so, what does it do? The larger missing hose, where might that connect to? couple photos to help. I can take more. airbox: pointing to smaller nipple, larger near my finger but barely in sight. firewall nipples: overall view from drivers side.
  16. Thinking more about the CSB. When it went bad in my e39 it made a louder noise and not a whine type noise. Would a high pitched whine be caused by a bad CSB also?
  17. I think checking grounds and adding a ground are definitely in my future. I meant the temp gauge is reading normally. Also no obvious signs of overheating-and upper/lower hoses felt compliant and warm after the drive so it seems thermostat is opening. The hoses feel much newer than 10 years. No records of recent replacement though. Center support bearing, yes of course. That would make sense. Records show it was replaced in '96 and again in '13, with only 1,000 miles since. Could be deteriorated from age though. Guibo also replaced in '99. --- Thanks everyone for the help.
  18. A local friend (who is also here, and referred me here) mentioned the additional ground as well. I'll be sure to do that. Thanks! Well, funny thing happened. Drove the car around the neighborhood a bit more and learned quite a few things: -Temp gauge appears to be operating normally. At normal operating temps it was below 3oclock and didnt waver. Will probably still do the thermostat and check grounds on sender. No records of when it was changed recently. Also: -Speedo works! Seller said it hadn't been working. -Tach works too (also told it wasn't working), although it only works intermittently and when it does it is super jumpy. I will assume that's a bad ground but will research here and see what I find. -Turn signals don't work. Seller said you had to hold down/up the lever, kind of forcing the contacts, for them to work but I couldn't get them to work. Probably ground lol. More research. -Headlights are VERY DIM. Similar to my 1969 Ford F100. Will need to address this quickly. Need to sort if there's a problem before I upgrade to H4s. -At 30-40mph+ I start to hear a whine. At first thought it was a caliper dragging but pressing the brake did not affect sound. Sound is car speed related as far as I could tell and got better on the gas, worse when I released the gas and coasted or held steady pedal. First thought is the diff is dry? Dunno. Will do some fluid swaps this weekend. This noise is concerning though. There's also what sounds like the throwout bearing-more noise in neutral, less when I press the clutch. Any additional advice appreciated. Had fun driving the car! Although will need to add a pillow until I can redo the seat cushion as I sit too low for the steering wheel position (5ft 6) lol. Thanks all. Pablo- Lots to do!
  19. Thanks! User error as I suspected. Not the reason I became a paying member by the way-just showing support. Thank you for clarifying the search function. Pablo-
  20. I didnt change the options but I was in the 2002 forum so it should have pulled from there at least. I can try changing the search options. Below is screen grab. But I just went back and searched again, making sure to be in the 2002 and other 02 forum and got 73 results. I did just pay last night to be a member so I wonder if the search function is related to level of membership? Appreciate your help.
  21. I'm just getting to know my new 72 2002tii. The previous owner and I are still talking regularly. He mentioned that recently the temp gauge in the cluster started to show high temps but when he measured the engine temp with a thermometer in the rad top tank it showed normal temps. is there a temp sensor or something that might be tripping out the temp gauge?
  22. I try to search my questions/issues instead of posting a new thread. Here, literally every time I have searched I come up with "Found 0 results" For example, I just found (through Google) a thread on door cards and one post said there were many threads on removing the door panel safely and to search "door service". I tried searching that term, and similar, and "Found 0 results". The irony is that in many of my searches I start here, then enter the same search terms in Google and a bunch of bmw2002faq threads come up in Google. Why don't they come up when I search here? Its a little frustrating.
  23. Hi Brandon, Looking for a few bits for my new-to-me 72 2002tii. Do you have right side front side marker light (below the larger turn signal/marker)? its the reflector looking one I'm missing. Also, rear license plate light, left side, or both if in good condition as my one is rusty. Lastly, driver/left interior door handle. Mines there but missing the rubber inset piece. Let me know. Thank you.
  24. Thanks everyone. I have some more info. -brakes were recently rebuilt and new fluid very recently. -mechanical fuel pump has been recently rebuilt. there were a few other things and he has a list for me. -he has all receipts AND the original window sticker, manuals, etc. coming with car. I got a video of them driving it onto the trailer this afternoon as well. once I get the receipts I’ll create a binder and log all the repairs. Then I’ll have a better idea. But I’m with you on rubber bits, particularly fuel lines. We’re very sensitive in our house as my sons e30 caught fire last July (he rebuilt it). I’ll be doing all the work myself. solid info. Thanks everyone.
