  1. as fun as driving your 02 in the snow? And the new horns are pretty exciting too. Now to fix the rear window defroster and rebuild the heater box. Then there’s the rising temperature gauge with no heat. Argh. IMG_6500.MOV
  2. Are those bumpers tucked? Great to see an air dam on a square tail (with bumpers). Do you mind sharing where you got it?
  3. The Ignitor II wasn’t going in as planned so I mounted my Ski-Hiker II which went much smoother. It’s either a pipe dream or on my bucket list but I really want to take my 02A to go skiing. I’m sure there are laws that say I shouldn’t but I will wait for a sunny spring day to shoot for nirvana. Plus I couldn’t pass on the Ski-Hiker II since it was made in my hometown, Kenosha, Wisconsin. The advertising even mentions 1975, the same year as Binger. Anyone in Colorado wanting to go on an adventure let me know. It will probably be Loveland ski area, the only place where $50 still buys you a fine day of skiing. Now to contact Pertronix.
  4. Yup. I saw you too and now know what your car looks like. Pertronix going in this weekend and then I’m hoping all is good (for awhile).
  5. Keep one in your trunk. My extra one was in the garage in my spare parts box.
  6. When I bought my 02A a couple of years ago I was looking for a taco after the lease came up on my Audi A3 Etron. The car was incredibly clean, mostly original and for $5,700 it was going to be my first money maker. $15,000 later it continues to amuse me and like everyone else has said, it’s just a hoot to drive. It’s my daily when I’m not riding my bicycle and once a week I leave a little early for work and take it up to the reservoir. Current concerns are the temperature needle creeping up and white smoke on hard deacceleration. Ignitor II hopefully going in this weekend and then it’s going to purr like a kitten.
  7. He was the first person who reached out to me when I got my 02A a couple of years ago. I never got to meet him but I loved seeing his posts when he reached out to help so many of us. RIP Dan.
  8. Just passing this on from the Colorado 2002 Facebook page ?
  9. Just press it on. Pay attention to the transitions and try to do a better job than I did.
  10. This morning when I came out to the garage there was a strong smell of a solvent. I thought something had fell off the shelf and spilled on the floor. I had just filled the tank yesterday so maybe that was what I was smelling (my wife is always complaining about the smell). The puddle on the floor was pretty big and under the radiator. So I happily went off to work with the smell of gas in my nose. Then I noticed the gas gauge dropping a lot faster than usual. After my second stop I finally found the steady drip with the engine running. The fuel line had rubbed against the emissions belt and worn through. From the deep recess of my brain I remembered a FAQ post about using a fuel filter to repair a break. Luckily I had one in the trunk. Now to figure out how much fuel line I need to buy.
  11. I took care of my wind noise for less than $20. No after picture on my phone but it looks “fair to midland”.
  12. I got my Bilstein HD’s from Automotivestuff.com about a year ago. Still haven’t got them installed yet though.
  13. Somehow I had gotten into my head that the automatic was a $1,500 option. $300 is a little more realistic. Thanks for sharing.
  14. I would try black Shoe Goo. It’s my new miracle adhesive. Used it on my shortened bellows with pretty good results. Next comes the dash cracks.
  15. I found a young local kid willing to do a paint correction and ceramic coat on my Malaga 02A for $500. He even offered to polish the bumpers. Now how to convince my better half that this is money well spent.
  16. I think FAQers are some of the most observant people I’ve ever met. Now if I can only find where the other end of this hose should go.
  17. I’m not very skilled at social media but this post caught my eye. I can’t believe there wasn’t any comments about the car.
  18. I have a 1975 02A I’m thinking about selling, $21,500. Let me know if this is in your ballpark. I’m in Fort Collins, Colorado.
  19. I have a 1975 I’m thinking about selling, $21,500. Let me know if this is in your ballpark. I’m in Fort Collins, Colorado. No A/C.
  20. I followed the advice on FAQ about adding a couple of o rings to the rubber stopper. Tightened it right up.
  21. Thanks everyone for your thoughts & ideas. I checked in this morning and mechanic had removed two pistons. He was going to have his machinest shave down the odd ball. The number two cylinder wall that looked damaged in the picture was actually ok per the mechanic and I couldn’t feel anything significant. The head had been shaved as much as it could and looked better. Though he didn’t have numbers for the landings he said the rings were tight and I couldn’t see any ridges in the “new” old one. I’m pretty good with wood and was once a wooden boatbuilder but those days are long over. So I’m going to ride this one out and hope for the best. Serenity now ….. I’ve got enough other things going on in my life that rise up above the car. Give your 02 some extra octane and hug your significant other & kids. And remember, life’s too short to drink cheap beer.
  22. I’m really getting dicked here. He said the cylinder walls only needed the glaze broken. Now with the gouges you pointed out in #2 it will be bored for the first time. Somehow I need to collect everything and run. It started out perfect and now is a bit of a s_it show.
  23. Yes, I asked him to measure the landings so I will need to address that tomorrow along with the cylinder wall. He did put in all new rings. He blamed the piston exploding as overheating due to lack of radiator fluid. I’m not buying that as I keep a pretty close watch on the needle. I had so much faith in this guy but I should have stuck with my trusted VW mechanic.
