  1. Thanks Ray! Just did that and was able to dump in another 2-3 quarts! I guess total system capacity is somewhere around 8? Car is idling now with temp below halfway. So far so good! Will continue drive and report back if further issues arise. Thanks for the quick help!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Just opened the cap (no steam), and don't see any coolant swimming in the top section. Should it be all the way full? I guess one can't overfill it since it has that excess drain hose inside the filler cap funnel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Letting it cool rn. How high should it be filled? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Didn't set the valve... Didn't know about that. Half an hour ago when I first noticed the high temp, I pulled over and released all the steam at the filler cap. Maybe counter productive? What next? Top off with more 50/50? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Flushed both radiator and block. Filled it with 5 quarts of 50/50 (the good stuff that's recommended here, I forget the name). Also took out the AC radiator and cleaned the fins of the main radiator. I would expect air flow and cooling to be better now. Yet instead the temperature gauge is stuck in red. It works though (needle moves slight up and down every few minutes). Why could this be? Do I need more than 5 quarts of coolant? It's hot today (90), but in similar weather it would previously only go slightly over halfway up. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Finished draining (engine included) and refilling the system. Quick question: is 5 quarts enough, or do I need put in more than that? Quite a bit splashed around my catch pan when I drained it, so I can't go by that amount...
  7. Same here. I started shaving them down a bit in the extra tight spaces, and am otherwise hoping they'll at least soften up over time to make closing the doors easier.
  8. Installed the spark plug heat shield and exhaust manifold gasket I had lying around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. When I had my interior re-upholstered, the company doing it for me found a supplier who inherited the OEM material from BMW and still produces it. I don't know the name of the supplier, but if you give the upholsterer a call, maybe they'll let you in on the secret: https://rochesternyupholstery.com/
  10. Ok. Would anyone have parts numbers of specs for the shorter bolts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks both. But running the car without those bolts is no risk, I take it? I want to be able to keep the bolts with the bracket and compressor, so that I have an installable kit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. So I just finished taking out all the Behr AC stuff. Last bit was the compressor that's bolted to the engine. There were three long bolts holding the bracket to the engine. Two of them at the very bottom right next to each other, the third one a bit up. When I pulled them out, 2 of the 3 came out very oily. I don't know how surface oil would creep all the way in there, so I'm wondering if they reach into the open cavity of the engine block and need to be put back in to seal the engine? Seems weird though that it would have such a design flaw... Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks all! Got it off below the thermostat after all. Was a bit messier, but worked fine. Thinking about creating a drain tap with a little hose, @PaulTWinterton style :)
  14. Any tricks on how to pull off a hose end that doesn't wanna budge? The bottom hose is pushed a good 2 inches over the bottom radiator outlet. Not wanting to move at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks! Will do the bottom hose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Need to take out radiator in order to get to all the bolts on the Behr comoressor (which is coming out). Understand I should drain the radiator first as opposed to just disconnecting the hoses right away. I read in the Haynes that there should be a drain tap somewhere (presumably at the bottom). I can't find it though. Where should I look? And while we're at it, where's the one for the engine block? Just in case I feel like draining that too to check for buildup... Thanks! 17. If I remember correctly (I installed a full set), the front seal is significantly longer than the original, making up for that difference. I actually cut it down a bit.

    So clean! Love it.
  19. It's the screw with the purple arrow in @Mark92131 photo above. The first screw you see when you follow the throttle linkage to the carb. It basically keeps the throttle from going all the way back into its resting (= no throttle) position.
  20. Hi group, I'm thinking about organizing a Cars & Coffee later this year - maybe in September or October. Would you all be interested? How many cars could we get together you think? I think it'd be cool to get to know each other in person! Let me know! Erik
  21. Ah too bad, only have a fresh right side lying around. I got it here: https://www.partsgeek.com/ss/?i=1&ssq=W0133-1606848&x=0&y=0
  22. Thank you all! This is all very helpful. [emoji106]
  23. My 76 has that too and when I had a complete sand down and repaint done, they guy recreated that finish. I think it might be a certain undercoat? I don't exactly remember how he explained it. But it does seem to be more durable that the rest of the paint. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
