  1. Re brake reservoir. Opened it up today . Float is there....tiny brass rod that attaches to the float...slipped down into the screen filter. Pulled out the filter and saw the rod was not connected to the float. Didn't have any tools, rags or gloves. So I closed it up and will try messing with it this weekend. Float was listing slightly. Re burping the system...good to know will try the heat....(once I figure out how to turn it on). Owners manual inbound (thanks eBay)
  2. Not a TII - Previous owner glued it on. I bought a used 2002 emblem from eBay that I will put on at some point. In the mean time I'm an "imposter" hopefully the Tii badge comes off in one piece.
  3. All, I really appreciate the welcome and the advice. I will check the items suggested and report back. Mike - I have already watched a few you tube videos on double clutching...seems pretty straight forward. Will put it to the test this morning. Temp gauge was riding between 1 and 2 o'clock position. I have all new hoses and thermostat/water pump. Though the outside temp was in the upper 80s when I drove it yesterday. thanks Dion ps car nickname picked. "Moby" ....yes yes because it's a whale of a project!
  4. Well today was the first real drive in my 1971 02! Technically not the first time I drove my new project, but it's the first drive with an engine firing on more then 2 cylinders. Running through the gears was a hoot! What a joy....the new Ansa exhaust turned some heads and I got my first. "Hey nice car". As an e30 owner I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm all to aware I have lots of work to do on this car but so far Its been is sooooo much fun....I can't wait to get back behind the wheel. Here are the main items addressed so far since picking up this car that was bound for parting out. - Swapped out the engine and transmission with a 73 02 that's getting the s2000 swap. - Completly overhauled the rear brakes with the upgrade to e21 drums etc (thanks Rogers tii) - shift kit - rebuilt brake booster (thanks to 2002ad) - new master cylinder - new brake lines - new parking brake cables (used turbo cables) - e21 turbine wheels - front and rear bearings Future projects / desires - my front and rear suspension is likely 15-20 years old and is showing its age - address rust/body/paint/trim and seals - all new interior (saddle) So I have to admit....I'm not exactly sure what all the knobs and switches do yet (I don't have an owners manual) but I am learning by trying. For example after several attempts i learned that my high beams stalk is not my turn signal stalk. Other Newbie things I need to research: -I have one big red round light on my dash that is lit (just to the left of the center dial). - temp gauge ( where should the needle be - transmission is crunchy on the down shifts. So excited with my new project car. Can't wait to wash it!

  6. Found a BMW 2002 Tii a few miles north of Watkins glen just off of rt. 414. Place was closed -though it had tons of rusting old cars that we would all love. Here are some pics of the 2002. I included a pic of their sign though it's barely legible. Might be worth checking out as a parts car.

  13. When I bought my 71 02 it didn't have a shift boot. Which one of these (round or square) is the right for a 1971? Thanks
  14. Build the engine you want based of how you plan to drive it. You will eventually have to refresh the suspension anyway so I say increase the power if you budget allows. That said... Being in a similar situation, just over a month ago, I had the blind luck of finding a running used 2.0 M10 and transmission for $900. That engine is now Installed and now waiting for some finishing touches (my brake booster to be rebuilt, refreshed shift kit and new brake master cylinder) before My first drive. Before taking this route I received engine rebuild quotes from 2002ad and Korman with the later being the more expensive. My car has rust so depending on my body shops assessment of the severity I may sell my original engine and trans. If the car can be saved without paying for my body shop guys mortgage for a few months, I will eventually have the original numbers matching engine and trans rebuilt and modestly upgraded. As of today I'm leaning towards 2002ad but there are some local Virginia shops that I'm going to check out as well. not sure this helps but good luck. DionK
  15. Well typical with craigslist, the seller never wrote me back, so.....ill be looking for some billsteins when I get to that portion of my project. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  18. Having just completed an engine swap to a 1973 M10 I'm chasing down vacuum leaks. First intake manifold gaskets and now we believe there is a leak inside the the brake booster so a replacement or a rebuild was in order. Finding only rebuilt ones with parts geek and eBay (centrix brand) I decided to have my original booster rebuilt. After an extensive 15 minutes of research I found that 2002ad and Ireland engineering both do rebuilds. Anxious to get my car on the road I went with 2002ad (they stated a 1 day turnaround vs IE who said it could be longer) i shipped my booster out to them yesterday. Stand by for updates, I will post some before and after pics when I get it back. Anyone have any any experience with this process?
