  1. 12 is definitely low but be wary of the high mileage (25-30mpg) claims on here. It all depends on the condition of your vehicle. You car may never get to that. Varies greatly from car to car. A brand new '02 in 1974 would get around 22.6 mpg. I've spoken with many shops that specialize on '02's and was told the 17mpg i get with my car, a 36 year old car, is about right. I have a 32/36 weber in my '74.
  2. i have this diagram as well but can't figure out which plug i need. the diagram doesn't reference location.
  3. Trying to get the trunk plugs for my '74 02 with sunroof. Does anyone know what the part numbers are: 51711825781? 51711835752? or? Thanks
  4. Thanks guys. I also found it at bmwmobiletradition
  5. Thanks Fred. I'll take a look. What does the clip look like?
  6. it came apart near the air cleaner. i believe the clip is missing. i am going to use a trash bag tie and just twist it. I'll look into getting a locking clip which might be a production. thanks!
  7. while starting my car today my gas pedal gave out and i noticed that the accelerator pull rod had come undone. there are two locations on the rod where it can be connected. does anyone know which location is correct/best? i chose the 2nd one as it appears the locking friction is higher, hence less of a chance it might come undone again. i also believe this position lessens gas pedal travel distance and perhaps increases gas flow. any thoughts? thanks.
  8. those cars are dreadful and require tons of work. by the time you get them well sorted and running you could have purchased a decent one. depends if you really like projects. def won't be money saving venture.
  9. fun cars for sure. a turbo, wow. hope you can work a mean wrench. the turbos are really really expensive to fix. as pricey to fix as a new 911. one of the reasons so few people have kept them. boxsters are a blast to drive but are pos. just like all the water cooled 911's are pos. porsche's were best pre 1999 when their cars were air cooled and handmade. they began mass producing junk begininng in 1999. air cooled 911's are the best.
  10. Here are some pics of the car. 3500 miles on a rebuilt engine. Almost all internals and interiors brand new as well. Pics are posting upside down. Hilarious!!!
  11. thanks for the suggestion. i know in it's current form the shifter looks like it belongs in a truck, lol, but the ease of reach and the proper distance for my legs are realised in this setup. I'm fairly tall and have tried every seat adjustment possible and it's doesn't work for me in stock form. if i get the seat just right for my arms, my legs are too cramped on the pedals, knees too high. lol. so it's been either legs perfect and arms not or vice versa. also my head is not too far from the ceiling. it's a narrow, long car i believe best suited fit wise for the under 5'11" crowd. but i love driving it. a short shifter is definitely in the plans if i get a 5 speed tranny. and you're right, that might address a good deal of the throw and reach problem.
  12. I may adjust it a tad lower. Basically want to be able to shift gears with my back against my seat and not having to lean forward and reach down every time i shift gears.
  13. I have a 1974 '02 4speed. Today i bought a tall shift knob from autozone for $14.99. Found out top of shifting rod in car is too big for the standard shift knobs sold today. Went to hardware store next and took the new shifter. Explained the issue and spent about an hour in there trying to resolve it. Bought copper pipes in sizes 1/2", 3/4" and a cxc copper coupling 1/2" to 3/4". Cut down 1/2" pipe and inserted into new shift knob. Inserted the other end of that pipe into the cxc copper coupling 1/2" to 3/4". Inserted the 3/4" pipe into the 3/4" end of the cxc copper coupling. One 3/4" was measured for the inside the other from the outside. Hence why they fit together. It all just screwed together. Used black electrical tape on the exterior to give it a somewhat nice finish. Got into car and pushed the 3/4" pipe on top of shift rod. That was it. The shifter now sits about 1 foot below the steering wheel. My shifts are so smooth and fast I couldn't imagine driving the car any other way. I would recommend that anyone who hasn't tried a really tall shifter to give it a try. I increased the height of the shift rod by about 3 inches and the new knob was about 1 inch over the stock knob. Total additional height: 4". cost breakdown including tax: shift knob: $16.45 all copper pipes: $8.75 electric tape: $3.06 total: $28.26
  14. http://store.bimmerworld.com/jaffster-delrin-shift-knob-p1184.aspx I'm 6'1" and have to sort of reach down and forward for every shift. Thinking of finding a taller shift knob. I have the original 4 speed.
  15. how do you like the Aardvark 4 speed ssk? i was thinking of getting one. how can i telll if i have the later tranny? i don't think the ssk will work on the earlier ones.

  17. thanks. i thought the current front seats in my 02 weren't adjustable but i was wrong. so as they are new from the previous owner i'll keep them. i had just found some seats from a pre 1981 911 for $399. i'll spend the dough on a short shifter kit now.
  18. My front seats are not adjustable. I'm looking for used seats to replace then with that require minimal adjustments. Any other series bmw's or porsche's would be great. Thanks for your help.
  19. What year 911 are these seats from? Where were you able to find them? They look great.
  20. Now I am completely confused. Based on what this guy has stated, my 15-17 mileage in city driving isn't absurdly low? i've since adjusted my weber settings and am now getting 20mpg. gonna change the plugs and install new filter to see if I can squeeze a bit more out per gallon.
