    Thanks guys. Just got another opinion from the mechanic who built the car and he says definitely over $5K to fix it. Problem is that the car will now have a salvage title, so he suggests that I not fix it. I do have a lawyer.

    Friday Jan 13 10:25am, a block away from my home, i'm hit head on by an idiot in a 1999 Chevy S1500. That's a huge truck by the way. He makes a left turn into the intersection as I'm driving thru it. Appears about 3 feet in front of me, i slam on my brakes and we collide. Estimates to repair my car are between $5-7K. Insurance company has decided to total the vehicle. My car was restored and in near perfect condition. All internals were less than a year old, including rebuilt engine, beautiful seats, dash etc. Insurance company now has to find comps. Reputable shop in SoCal estimated the value of my car to be at least $9500. The insurance company views my car as just an old car, which is why they totaled it, but they will be in for a rude awakening when they try to find comps. As we all know these cars are very rare, especially ones in good condition.

    It looks like a clown car that would used in a circus where it would be driven into the arena and loads of clowns would continually exit the vehicle. Not a huge fan of the black and white contrast but i think the color and style of the rims are what kills it for me. Oh and that thing on the hood, why? just why?

    Well i drove out to Ireland Engineering and bought the SSK. Andy gave me a nice tour of the place. Great guy. Had it installed next door at Groma/BMW Vintage Motor Sport Group. John the owner helped me out. Very nice guy as well. Very smooth shifter. Definitely an improvement over the factory shifter rebuild I had done last year.

    Removed from my 1974 2002 and turns out problem with brakes still existed with new master cylinder installed. Problem ended up being a loose bolt below the booster. I'm located in SoCal. Open to reasonable offers plus shipping. Thanks. My email: chamberlainfilms@gmail.com

    Those were the readings at idle and tooling around under 3K rpm's. I guess i expected a higher volt retention when the fog lights were turned on. I'm not seeing much of difference from with my removed alternator. The fog lights were the main reason i sought out a higher output alternator. I guess i need to have the output of the newly installed unit tested.

    I installed the 85amp alternator and here are my volt readings: Normal running no lights or radio on: 13.5 volts Headlights on: 13.4 volts Headlights and Fog Lights: 11.5 volts No change with radio on Fog Lights seem to require a lot of juice. The removed alternator I believe was a 45amp. Was i mistaken thinking that a 40amp increase to and 85amp would sustain a reading of 13.5 volts with everything on including the fog lights and not the 11.5 reading i'm getting?

    I'm looking to add a higher output alternator and found a company BNR which sells 85-95Amp rebuilt Bosch alternators with internal regulators that are direct fit into 2002's. I was looking at the 318 alternator but if i can get the same amp output or more without the bracket mods it sounds like a no brainer. Did Bosch make higher output alternators for the 2002? Or have these units been tweaked by BNR, increasing the output? Any concerns?

    For the first time I have heat from the engine in the car!! Horray!! The thermostat i got was Vernet, a French brand. Eeeek.

    Replaced the thermostat today with and 80 and all is well. Thanks everyone. The removed thermostat has BMW and Wahler stamped on it #1260 720 and "88" off to the side. Couldn't match the numbers to anything but glad the replacement worked.

    Thanks for the offer Ray. I just bought an 80 thermostat for $10 and am gonna try that. A few people mentioned that the 80 works great for improved performance. I live in SoCal but have a 320i radiator so i don't think i'll have any overheating or running too hot issues with the 80.

    Thanks. I found and purchased one yesterday. Went to pick up today at BMA but the guys in their warehouse shoved and shipped it in a small jiffy pack bag and of course the screws broke off of the lens. Good grief. And of course it was the last one. So i still need the passenger side rear tail light lens.

    I'll try this today since I can't buy the part until monday. So if the hoses are warm i guess that would mean there is flow and that it must be the heater core? Hey Steve since you're in CA, which thermostat do you have? 80? 75? 71?
