  1. @halboyles - thanks for the response, you actually submitted that when I was editing my reply to Nick and added that consideration in. Thanks for the heads up that I won’t get same-same back, that leads me to probably just deal with the ones that I have ( unless I totally screw up the ones on the Lotus). Thanks!
  2. Hi Nick! I’m going to rebuild the front brake calipers on the Elan this weekend so, with your permission, I’m going to count that as my one time doing it and probably just order rebuilt ones to keep everything moving. Is it worth the core charge to come onto the original ones? I have no intention of selling the car but not sure how concerned the market is about that sort of thing. ?
  3. I’m happy to report that the front brake lines and calipers came off the car really easily, but as it’s been stored for a long time in dry but hot Nevada the calipers themselves appear to need some help. Any tips on where to source replacements or send them to be rebuilt? Thanks!
  4. Thank you for all the responses and tips. I did trim the mount reinforcement yesterday so I should be OK for access and mounting. I did have a rare and brief moment of clarity this morning – I’ve been talking to you guys about doing the subframe bushings, and dropping the sub frame will give me the easiest possible access to weld the reinforcement in place, right? In other words-actually do the welding with the Supremes out to make it easy, correct?
  5. @g_force - looks like I need to study up here some. i do have access to a press it helpful.
  6. Well that took all of 30 seconds to get a response. You guys are awesome. Thank you.
  7. Do you guys recommend trimming where the blue line is so it sits lower or trimming where the red line is so it doesn’t restrict the engine mount stud?
  8. Thanks @worzella - I already picked up are rubber. Having to do anything all over again is not a ton of fun, and know exactly where you’re coming from on that.
  9. Good morning and thank you for the helpful and fast responses. I picked up a new rectangular motor mounts yesterday, so I think I’m OK there. Any preference on the brand or sourcing of the sub frame bushings? I’m replacing the steering coupler as well, because I doubt I’ll ever have better access than now. Thanks!
  10. Not really looking for more work right now but you guys are rubbing off on me and I have this weird vague desire to do things properly... Since the engine is out and the rest of the engine bay stripped, with this be the time to address my subframe bushings preemptively? For a fun but civilized road trip car, stay with rubber? Thanks and in case some of us can’t tell the difference, it’s officially the weekend.
  11. I am a 2002 newbie, so lots of room to learn but please do keep in mind I have a habit of reinstalling removed parts to take pictures and/or jog my memory for when it is time to reassemble. The car had also been partially disassembled when it came into my hands. All the mounts will be new, now would seem to be the time. Thanks for the post.
  12. Thanks Nick. Hope you guys are doing OK back East. (Or, well, everywhere actually)
  13. Maybe? Honestly don’t know, I may have removed it when I pulled the engine.
  14. Thanks Tom! I just ordered the rectangular mounts.
  15. Thanks Tom - I've seen your posts here on this via some searching on the topic. Nice work. Do the rectangular engine mounts have a longer stud that would make the depth of the plate a non-issue? Otherwise will make sure this plate doesn't interfere with the stud. Thanks for the helpful and fast response.
  16. Now that the engine is out and engine bay gettin cleaned up I should probably get this installed. It appears to go on the back side, beyond cleaning everything well and making sure I have good metal to weld to any other tips? Thanks in advance for the thoughts.
  17. Shockingly I find myself needing to get prepared to be putting the engine back together. It’s a short block right now so intake and exhaust and fuel system all need to back on. wanted to ask if there are any recommended ways to support the engine while reassembling everything. I have an engine mount but doesn’t look like it’s going to line up. Is there an adapter that I should be using from one of the suppliers? Any clever homebrew stuff that you guys have come up with? Thanks!
  18. Progress....which I am sure I did the hard way. When I’m putting everything back in can I install the engine and transmission as a unit? Thanks!
  19. Good morning - I had a chance to inspect my interior yesterday and what I have is in similar condition so I need to pass. (bump)
  20. I was impressed with how easily they came off. Thanks again gentlemen (and will get proper wheel caps).
