  1. @NYNick - I’ll do some searching but what is the advantage of ditching the spacers?
  2. So cracking like this is bad, right? I guess it’s a trade off with this car coming from Nevada, the good news is that everything in Baltimore and screws like it was just put on but that dry heat is really rough on rubber fittings .
  3. Thanks gentlemen. Ed - an issues with tires rubbing or ride being too stiff? Looks like about a one inch drop? Thanks @NYNick
  4. Actually 1975 cars are SMOG exempt. Good luck with the trip, and welcome!
  5. Hope everybody had a good fourth, and thank you for being patient with my string of questions today. I have a set of used but good condition ST lowering springs, I wanted to get some thoughts on using those for a street in fast road car. I’m not trying to build a track car, and the car has to be comfortable for doing hundreds of miles a day because I mostly use my cars on longer distance touring events. With the front sub-frame out now would be the time to swap these in if it is a good move... Thanks for the coaching.
  6. Yes - have that piece and waned better access to do the welding. Excellent reminder, thank you.
  7. Some help you are! I wanted to drive her this decade, so much for that now....grin.
  8. Assume that swaybar bushings and slightly shorter springs and tie-rods will never be easier to swap in than now....
  9. Thanks John - have a great rest of your weekend.
  10. Hi John - thanks for the response. So clean up but leave natural metal and then clear to prevent rust?
  11. Have a rebuild kit coming, should I leave these bare metal or paint?
  12. The Pistons are out. The C-clamp worked a treat. Thanks for the ideas and tips, you all have been exceptionally supportive of my digging in to try to get this thing back on the road.
  13. Thanks - will drop the subframe on Saturday and report back.
  14. Thanks Nick - and ouch, sorry the 911 put up a fight.
  15. Got half the piatons out, easily. The others - not so much. Ideas before splitting the calipers? EDIT - just noticed that the seal kit does not have the critical seal that goes between the calipers so definitely not gonna split these until I know that those are available and good quality. Oops. EDIT #2 - Block off the openings where the pistons have been removed and time to use grease? Thanks!
  16. For those of you that use grease to pop out the Pistons how do you clean everything after words to make sure there’s no contamination
  17. Good morning gentlemen, thanks for all of the reply’s and information. i was able to get compressed air on these yesterday and the pistons all responded. The pistons on the same side as the hard lines where snappier but that is kind of expected due to them being closer to the source of air, right?
  18. Thanks for the responses. As I don’t have any history driving this car I really have no idea if the existing aubframe bushings are old as dirt or maybe fresh. Is there a way to tell? @danco_ - is there a brand of poly bushing you would recommend?
  19. Excellent discussion gentlemen, thank you for all the responses and tips. My Elan sat for 25 years untouched and the as a result the piatons were a complete pain to get out, took several hours and I to learn some new four letter words in the process as well. Ultimately I ended up replacing them with stainless steel units, my hunch/hope is that these will be OK as the brake fluid that came out when I disassembled everything was surprisingly clean so I don’t think the car was sitting quite so long. I will, carefully, get some high pressure air on these later today to see what I am dealing with.
  20. Thanks for the tips, hopefully they will move freely.
  21. Thanks for posting that @Buckeye , very helpful
