  1. Oh sure Nick, encourage me to do it properly. Some help you are!
  2. Thanks Shawn - I need to repaint the engine compartment in it's entirety so that gives me a bit of room to get gorilla on it (without damaging anything). Will go easy at first and see how far that gets me. I can clean and paint the subframe separately from the engine bay if I'm understanding the assembly correctly, right? I'm sure the subframe needs bushings anyway and with the engine out and everything disconnected now would be the time to drop it after the engine pay paint (will be overspray etc so why do it twice). Ditto I assume for swaybar refresh, and springs and and and.... Gulp.
  3. Thanks @Shawn Piper, I suppose in for a penny in for a pound at this point. Just scrape the old stuff off?
  4. This gash doesn’t look like it belongs there - clean and weld that up? Thanks for the help and eyes on the car.
  5. When you guys strip for paint, how do you handle the foam and the pedal assembly?
  6. Literally LOL, well played sir, well played indeed!
  7. @rcf925 - Did you have must surface rust to deal with/treat? Look great, nice work.
  8. Thanks for the responses, appreciate the help.
  9. Thanks guys, I used them on an MG with good success. Will pack it up for then.
  10. Shockingly I worked on the long suffering ‘74 Tii today. Hope some of you are sitting down for that news. 1) I am planning to send the brake booster to Karp’s in SoCal unless there is a more preferable source to have tit rebuilt 2) Anyone know if a shop in SoCal that would be able to strip and paint my engine compartment without my having to give up my first born chikd? Oh sure, she is a teenager and at times a mint engine bay seems worth the trade but her Mom would be pissed and I’d probably miss her after all. Hope it’s been a good week so far. Thanks!
  11. There is one mount, which I believe is E21. Yes? Maybe? Hopefully? (How long before you all forget I posted a 914 gearbox? Yeah, never. Figured that. ?)
  12. Just measured in the top bolt separation is +/- 120 millimeter, so it looks like the box is correct and I just need to think twice before posting anything here.
  13. Holy cow - I am a moron. I took a picture of the wrong gearbox. That is for one of my 914s. I may have too many projects going simultaneously. I had the Getrag box there and forgot I moved it. Oh geez. Sorry gentlemen. ?
  14. I don’t see any difference there except for that they are wildly different. Ha. OOPS. Thank you for the fast response and eyes on it.
  15. Happy Monday gentlemen, hope everybody had a good weekend and you have not already forgotten all about it. I was about to order seals, at your coaching, to make sure this gearbox is oil tight but in researching related topics on the forum I discovered that there’s two versions of this gearbox, one of which won’t work with our engines. Could someone eyeball this to see if it looks like the right bell housing pattern? I read somewhere that there needs to be on 20 mm spacing on the top bolt holes, this does not have that. Thanks in advance for the help.
  16. Good morning gentlemen, I hope everybody’s having a good week so far and is staying safe in them are well. When I looked at the five speed gearbox sitting on my garage floor mocking me for not having installed it yet I noticed that the front seal where the input shaft is has an oil leak. In a rare moment of clarity it occurred to me that I should probably fix this before installing it in the car. This will be my first time touching one of these gearboxes and I wanted to ask if it’s a bigger or smaller than a bread box amount of brain damage. Thanks!
  17. Back to the trim - can existing trim be saved or does it typically get buggered up when being removed? Dents removable or are you typically into replacement mode if it has dings and dents etc...
  18. Thanks - exactly why I asked. Appreciate the response.
  19. So, yes, I know this is an old thread but curious if this is still the go-to approach to save money while having good eyeball?
