  1. Sorry for not being adequately specific - it is the exhaust pipe under the car. Will likely get her in the air tomorrow and take a bunch of pictures. Thanks for the ongoing thoughts and information.
  2. Thanks for the follow up. There are two shops, the one that built it and th wine that finished buttoning everything up. issue would seem to be with the engine builder, will contact them today.
  3. Thanks @Gordon, appreciate the referral. I didn’t see ‘74 or later options there however.
  4. Will pull the clutch cover, bad rear main leak crossed my mind too. Thanks for all the ideas and considerations.
  5. Thanks for the on-going discussion. I don’t see any signs of smoke and did have a friend follow me earlier. Exhaust under the gearbox looks coated in tar, which I assume is my missing oil. Top of the engine looks clean enough to eat of still.
  6. I didn’t initially fill the oil myself as it was at a shop but it had been run and test driven prior to my confirmation it was at the top level mark on the dipstick. I don’t see signs of any smoke, which is encouraging I suppose. Thanks for the follow-up. (I am a bit gutted if I am being honest)
  7. Thanks Mike, I’ll try to get it on a lift tomorrow but no leaks from the top of the engine. When I checked the oil upon picking it up from the shop it was full just to be top mark of the dipstick, tonight it was at the very bottom mark. Appreciate the ideas.
  8. The professionally rebuilt engine that I had professionally installed in the 1974 Tii either leaked or Bert a quart of oil over the last 254 miles. In other words since it’s been fired up it’s only traveled 254 miles and it’s already a quart low. That can’t be right, and I’ve got oil on the exhaust pipe and drips under the car that are engine and transmission oil. as far as I know I’ve made a concerted effort to break it in properly, can anyone think of anything that I might be missing here before I get my head around the edge and having to come back out? thanks and hope everybody had a good weekend so far.
  9. The "before" picture was very helpful, I think the 911 Sport Seats might be too bulky as an option.
  10. thanks for the confirmation. I’ve had a hard time finding a decent donor set, the best I’ve done so far for a pair that needs to be redone as far as the material goes but with a good foam in frame is $1200.
  11. @NYNick - those are refinished E21 Recaro's, correct?
  12. Thanks for all the responses (and the car does need an alignment still), but someone please hurry up and "learn me" what all this 278 is about!
  13. Thank you, your extra efforts to help me along with above and beyond support from people like @AceAndrewand @Tobyand @kbmb02and @Steve Tochiand @tech71and @Son of Martyand @danco_@'76mintgrün'02 and @Conserv and many others made it possible. When things clear up I am soooo hosting a good meal for anyone that finds themselves in SoCal.
  14. Excellent - press on and please keep us posted.
  15. Believe it or not, and I know there are some who where in the “not” camp after all of my occasionally inane questions and years of delay, but the ‘74 Tii just drove home under her own power for the first time since 1998. Between searching for past discussions and all the questions I ask you all helped me make hundreds of little decisions and figure out countless details. The coaching you offered on the gearbox and shocks and driveshaft and springs and bushings and swaybars and engine rebuild approach and multiple vendors all came together into a quite satisfying car to drive. Loads to do still, but another one is back on the road and already getting thumbs up as I passed people driving her home. I can’t thank you all enough for the support and encouragement you all have offered me.
  16. Thanks for the responses. @AceAndrew - they are chunkier than the more commonly used Recaro seats but not that much so that they will look squeezed in. Thanks @Mike G, that helps Think I will try to lose fit one this weekend and see how it looks.
  17. So I dutifully started looking for Recaro's for my '74 after the interior thread discussion and here in SoCal at least they are spendy. Then I realized - I already have Recaro's, but just a Porsche design and are correct for a 74+ car (well, 1974+ 911 anyway), and they look like this (not my actual seats but same design). I know from searching they can be made to fit, but imagine these in matching blue to the rest of the interior. Can I get an aesthetics check on aisle 2002tii please? Just because I own them and they will fit doesn't mean they should be fitted. ? Thanks gentlemen!
  18. Thanks for all of the discussion gentlemen.
  19. The good news is that my interior in the 1974 TII needs to be replaced because it’s sun baked rather than moldy, the bad news is that if you so much as look at it sideways it turns to dust. Can I ask for some recommendations on where to source the replacement seat covers and door panels etc.? Thanks and VERY best wishes for a nice and safe Thanksgiving.
  20. Well - the mount showed but only the rubber part I already had due to apparent miscommunication. I'm going to try installing the various mounts and see what the cleanest path towards the support looks like. I'll make sure to get everything to the right locations before any welding.
  21. Thanks for the discussion and ideas. I connected with BluntTech and they are sending a 320i mount. Apparently I do need to enlarge the hole in the cross member one drill size but otherwise should be easy.
