yep cali stupidity
ooh ... my favorite recent discovery.
I was writing a paper for a required "engineering ethics" class and chose to cover the closing of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant following environmental outcry. Turns out that the power output lost by closing down San Onofre was/continues-to-be supplemented primarily by coal plants. The CO2 emissions generated from the loss of nuclear power? .... the equivalent to what is produced annually by all of the cars in LA/OC.

Here's Porsche Oak Green Metallic. (try to overlook the shotty paint job, the cap on my can of clear coat pooped out on me midway). I really like the coarser flake. It is a beautiful color in bright sun. But it looks almost black in the shade and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
How am I not supposed to get distracted by the background.... very cool.

Yup, should be fine. I can send over a bunch of install photos if you'd find them helpful.

I'm hoping to find some photos of cars painted other non-2002 green paint codes, especially metallics.

From my perspective, they have been 3/4s of the way down that road for quite some time.
Cheers,
From my perspective ... for nearly 7 years I spent 3/4 of my day on the phone answering tech questions and handling (not infrequently angry) 02 customers. Most of that time my efforts seemed like trying to fill a bottomless hole, but then... there was that 10% when there was someone grateful, someone who was nice, someone who wanted to learn. That 10% made the 90% worth it. Many of those %10'ers are/were FAQ members. Then there were the shop owners who were also enthusiasts who "got it" Patrick ONiel, Mario, Jeff Chang, Peter/Eric Sliskovich, Lee, and many others.
However, I'd be lying if I didn't say that that 90% didn't eventually wear me out .... it burned Jeremy out, he left. It burned me out...
Rather than repeat that cycle IE has now simply moved to simple/effective communication via email. It's not perfect as evidenced here. But also, as evidenced here, it can be very effective.

Really enjoyed the frame fabrication, the mirroring was cool.
Would love to see some of the other vehicles you’ve already done… to provide a little context to the 02
and… yes thank you for resisting the obnoxious thumbnail.

Fit great! No more chopping up a drain gasket nor worrying about having the wrong rubber falling apart.

Cool piece. Radu is a great guy.

Hi Paul
Looks like a stock cam at quick glance. The stampings you show are manufacturing marks, not indicative of the grind.
Are there any marks on the nose? Measure the base circle and lobe height with a caliper, that'll tell us the lift (which in turn will tell us if its stock or something spicier).

Phoo ... that one is pretty variable. It's a boat anchor if you don't need it, it's gold if you do. $100-$800 is my napkin estimate based off of the very few I'm familiar with. I've given a couple away.

@Coinlaundryloser Welcome to the FAQ. Glad to have you here. What part of Idaho are you in? I grew up in Boise (Timberline HS) and my high school best friend owns/runs Don's Supreme Auto.
Love what you're doing. If you do need parts, please feel free to PM me and I have a couple stashes I can sort through.

Looks like they took some JDM references in the design.

"What are your strengths? What can you bring to the table?" The interview is simultaneously stressful and a great relief. You spend considerable time and energy constructing a well-crafted résumé (printed on quality paper with attention-grabbing fonts!) to get through those doors...- 2

Haha, how can we convince you to post more pictures of your collection of goodies?!
Yes, slippery, but I'm trying to figure out how to add some tasteful grip tape .
Another consideration would be the set from Pedal Haus.

I'm not sure what an e10 is.
These look to be 6-bolt side covers, which would mean they fit E21 differentials made post 09-79. They would NOT fit a 2002 or early e21 with 4-bolt side covers.
Looks to be a fair price, best of luck.

2. Make sure the brown ground wire running from the alternator frame to the engine block is present, and that it hasn't frayed down to a couple of strands under the ring terminal ends (they do that) That's the only good ground path for the alternator's - current to flow due to its rubber mounts.
mike
I'll emphasize this. Had the same happen to my car and it tried to ground through that line going to the regulator.
My alternator-engine ground wire was present, but when I checked the resistance .... it was through the moon. Brittle, old, and too small to begin with.

Yes, great explanation, loved dynamics ... however, as you note at the end... my inclusion of spring heights were in relation to the vehicle ride height and how that does affects handling.

Order doesn't matter, but I like putting the thickest against the housing because I fantasize that it seals better (although I still use a very thin smear of Dirko).

@02TurboMI That's pretty spot on for an aggressive street car in my experience. I prefer the 250-275 w/ 8" for a "firm but not stiff" street car. If it was a bit more aggressive with an occasional autoX/track day, I'd go up to 300-350 w/ 7".
Just one point of context, when building the Clarion '02 it was specced w/ 250's and HD's initially. Most of the drivers/media enjoyed the balance for canyon driving (I believe Mr. Macha and Mr. Danco here on the FAQ drove it), but then Chris Forsberg (excellent drift driver) drove it out on track and suggested stiffening the rates. Swapped to 350's w/ sports. Handled better and it was still livable on the street, but then the Clarion rep drove it and politely requested I put back in the original setup under the impression it was more in line of what they were after.

Found the lever, FAQ friends come through again. Thank you so much.

Hey everyone, just in case this gets a few eyeballs. I’m hunting for a long-neck NK shift lever. Just after the upper portion. Happy to trade any other oem lever or any of the short shift levers I have.

Paint on fender bolts?
in BMW 2002 and other '02
Posted · Edited by AceAndrew
I very strongly dislike painted fasteners as it looks like shoddy workmanship and opted not to paint them on my project..... however, yes, they were painted from the factory.
