  1. Peachtree City, newnan/atlanta metro area??? My sister saw a red 02 here locally in town...is this gentleman a member of our forum??
  2. yeah a nicely built m10 is sounding very nice right now. and i would love to put someting bigger in it, but the time it would take to fabricate shit is kind of unappealing. i hate being without it. Everyone who has built one-- how much (round numbers) did it cost you
  3. I just put a 3.91 from an E21 in it two weeks ago. I didn't realize you had to get a different speedo?? i guess realistically what my budget includes is just a rebuild of my stock M10. with 9:5:1 compression, how much power do you gain?
  4. Well i guess my engine is really hurting.... I mean it doesn't struggle persay up hills, but it doesnt accelerate up them. I believe the motor is stock, i am not sure if has the 32/36 or the two barrel solex. I am assuming it has a 32/36 because webber is imprinted on the side of the choke. My mechanic buddy says he thinks the thing is putting about 60 horse to the wheels, which from what you guys say your cars have, is EXTREMELY low, but im not positive on that part because i havent had a chance to strap it to our dyno at the shop yet. Also i am not sure exactly how many miles are on it because the odometer has reset itself, so im guessing around 111,000 or 211,000 and i have no idea if it has ever been rebuilt. It runs very clean without and sputtering and idles fine. Have any of you guys ever put your cars on a chassis dyno? if so, how much were you putting to the wheels??
  5. Alright, like everyone else, i am getting sick of having a car that struggles up hills. Dont get me wrong, i love my 02 but after driving my dads E36 M3 for a couple of weekends, some power would be nice. Now, i know that many people have dont the M20 swap, which would be most desirealbe, but money is a problem of course, as well as time. I have also heard of the M42 from the E36 and late E30 318 transplant, which seems like it would be easier than the M20 because of the obvious difference in size. Now for the third option; a built performance motor from someone like Korman Autoworks, or Racetep perf. Both of their stage two engines yeild about 150 hp, but the Korman one is $9600, while racetep advertises theirs at $3900(labor not included). Or, i could just build the motor myself. So, which would be the best way to go, bang for your buck, and the easiest swap?
  6. Verrrrry Nice!! Along with everyone else, i am intereseted in making this swap Ballpark estimates, how much did it cost you to accomplish this?? Also, how long did it take?
  7. Touche Mr. Esty, Touche. Seriously, drive the car for a little bit, and then figure out how much you want to put into it. But here is a little disclaimer, 2002's are not an investment, they are a "money pit", however they bring you a great amount of joy. And power isnt everything, if you really know what your doing, and you have your car set up suspension wise, you can still have a bunch of fun with even the small amount of power the stock m10 puts out. Granted, with some extra power, you wont have Honda Mini Vans roast your ass of the line, but a 2002 is still one of the most enjoyable cars i have driven on a nice curved road. And as fellow 02ers have said, 150 horse out of that small and light of car will feel like someone strapped a rocket to your nuts. While 110-120(which is more easily obtainable) horse might not seem like alot compared to the E92 M3, you have to consider the power-weight ratio here. Just my opinion and now im off my soapbox
  8. Cool. But where do you pry? just on the outside of the flange against the side of the diff?? And is there something special that you have to do when you put the flanges back in??
  9. I have a late E21 3.91 LSD, and am having to change out the flanges for some double drilled ones that i purchased from Rob at 2002 haus, and am wondering on how to get the damned things out. I read in the faq section that they flanges are held in by a snap ring just above the splines. Now do i have to disassemble the carrier and such to do this?? This is probably a stupid question, but please help
  10. yea they will wok. I have a pair on my car. The only complaint i have is the size.. there isn't shit for tires in that size, or at least 205/60/13 which is what i run on them
  11. That color is awesome. Is it the same green they put on the Super Birds?
  12. I used Koni adjustables with the H&R springs, and they are awesome. I have the back struts dialed in all the way and the front ones half way, and the ride is STIFF and it handles like a dream. When and if you do a suspension upgrade, polyurethane bushings are a must, and take those dumb ass spacers and throw them as far as you can. They serve no purpose, and they were only added to the U.S. cars, so the front bumper would meet US DOT standards. complete bullshit. ditch them. An 02 looks so much better w/o them.
  13. I posted a previous forum asking about how to make, what i believe to be, a late E21 320is LSD into my 02, and was told that i could put 320 CV joints on the inboard ends of my half shafts and wam bam im good to go, but i was wondering if anyone had ever just drilled new holes in the 320is flanges instead of swapping CV joints. I figured i would ask you guys before i went out and junk yard hunted for some good half shafts from a 320. Anyone ever done this??
  14. I bought an E21 320is 3.91 LSD for my 75 02 and it bolts in fine, but it seems that the bolt pattern on the flanges of the new diff dosent match up with my CV axles....Solutions?? I have heard that your supposed to be able to change out the flanges from a 02 diff and put them on the E21 diff, is this true??? Please please help, my poor old 02 is my only means of transport, and right now is VERY dysfunctional
  15. Its a limited slip. Im not sure of the ratio, its prob. a 3.91, but thats one thing that i will, of course, have to determine before i go and start buyin things. I have checked with Dave Varco from aardvarc racing and he said it will be $450 at the minimum to refurb it, but if all he is gonna do is replace bearings, seals, and totally inspect the thing. He said that pinion or ring gears are like $25 for a 3.91, and $225 for a 4.10, which puzzles me. So i just thought, hey instead of paying labor for Varco (no offense) to do it when my buddy told me he would help me rebuild it for free, aside from the cost of parts.
  16. I posted a once beofre that my diff had seized on me, and i talked to my mechanic buddy and he said that i could just have him rebuild it for less money than actually buying a new one. We still havent put the car up on a lift and started taking shit apart, but i thoght i would ask you guys first. The tranny engages fine and the driveshaft spins, but the diff doesnt spin at all. does this sound like it could be rebuilt??? and if it can, does anyone know of a source for the innards to rebuild it with??
  17. It would probably fit in the trunk, or maybe the passenger seat if you don't mind getting it greasy. But it's not going to propel your car without some extensive welding and fabrication, since it mounts in an entirely different way than the E21/2002 diff. As for finding an LSD that easily fits your car, you can get one from Dave Varco easily (2002parts.com), or post a request in the FS section here, or e-mail sherman martinez since he often seems to have them. Thanks man, i will definitely be sending Dave Varco to see what he has. Another question, what ratio should i get?? Im looking to have a decent amount of torque while still having a top speed that isnt 85 mph. So i believe that he debate is between a 3.91 and a 4.10
  18. Will an e30 lsd fit in a 2002?? I know that an e21 lsd will, but i thought an E30 would be easier to come by. Also, Does anyone know where i could get my hands on a new/used LSD for a 2002 ?? Mine blew itself today and now i am looking for what seems to be the impossible, a diff. Any ideas/resources would be GREATLY appreciated Chris
  19. The frame rail really isn't that big of a deal, and like others have said, as long as its not completely corroded away, then you should be able to patch it up without to much of a struggle. I just bought a 75 that over all is pretty "rust free". but, you have to keep that term in context with the 2002. There aren't many 2002's around that are COMPLETELY rust free, and the ones that are, cost more than a pretty penny. Then again, you do have to keep your budget in mind, and where you live. Being in Toronto, i assume you have to deal with snow, so the car has probably experienced some salt damage from the roads. Basically, 2002s rust. It is inevitable. That is one fault that these cars have. As for the motor, i wouldn't call it a fact that the motor has been rebuilt unless you see some sort of documentation. But, the M10 does run FOREVER if it has been taken care of, and if the car has as little rust as you say it does, then i would assume that the motor has been cared for. I guess just put it up on a lift, look it over with a BMW mechanic and go from there. Have fun.
  20. How old is your slave cylinder???? I had the same problem in my car, with the thing leaking. I was at a stop light and the damn thing wouldn't go into gear. :0 replaced it for like 100 bucks. other than that, make sure that your hoses and seals and all that shit are in good shape. but overall it shouldn't be too outrageously expensive
  21. Has anyone ever heard of a possible motor swap from a new Mini S? I was thinking about it the other day and it seems like it would be a pretty sick swap. Anyone ever heard of this before??
  22. Will a 74 tii gas tank fit (easily) on a 75 reg. 02??
  23. Ahh good. I thought it might have something to do with the Alt. becuase the POS is about to lock up on me. Time for a new high voltage one!! Thanks for the help Chris
