I dunno!  It’s hard to judge once rims are on the car due to shade and shadows. And I believe “the correct color” is a range, not a single color. BMW didn’t sweat details such rim color.

Here are a couple of photos of my ‘76 in April 1977; the car was manufactured April 23, 1976. So the rims were a year old at that point. But also note that each looks to be a different color, due to the different lighting that falls on each. And... my ‘76’s five original rims had three different dates — not at all unusual — so I’d bet the five weren’t a perfect match at the start.

The third and fourth photos are of a May 1972 tii rim with original paint (front and rear). It’s been sitting in my basement since 1974, when I parted the car. A few years ago, I clay-barred and waxed the rim to get a better look at its finish and color.

    Regards,

    Steve

Perhaps. Then many shades/sheens of aluminum/silver are correct. Then, can this range be determined to put this question to rest - ?

Perhaps, but I doubt there would be much difference - more so if one was Kronprinz, one was Lemmerz, or manufacture dates were far apart, etc. There is also apparent brake pad dust on your right front wheel, no? Just sayin

Your 5/72 tii wheels appear slightly shinier/"brighter" but again, could appear different due to lighting/flash/dirt/wear/god, etc and that they had ~1.5 years of use, likely covered by full wheel covers during that time, and put in a basement away from fading light for 45 years - unique circumstances for sure.

They look very good! What we really need is the RAL number for “Porsche Silver”.

    Best regards,

    Steve

Not too silvery, man? As nice as they look, especially with CN36's, shaved side reflectors, Euro turn signals and bumpers, inka paint, I kinda think they're a little too silvery. Just my opinion though, and we know everyone has one of those! ?

Anyone notice how the carousel banner atop when viewing this thread shows ads for 3M adhesive products. It would appear the A.I. spiders are reading the language and tailoring the content.  Weird in a creepy way. nowhere is safe.

Did u search for 3M on amazon? Let's try this: hawaii beach surf string bikini wahine hottie

I don't see why one'd wanna use adhesive on the whole dang thing... how about lots of binder clips around the outside to hold in place (temporarily (use some cloth or felt underneath to prevent clips from digging into the vinyl) and then use the stapler gun on the backside, then remove clips?

So my Verona red 72 is getting ready to be painted and the paint shop is suggesting that I let them paint Metallic Verona red? I told them im not sure if I want metal flakes in my red paint (that's what I understand when someone says Metallic). I understand the car originally came with single stage etc. and I read so many articles here on different paint type opinions but my question is does anyone here ever have their dark color 2002 painted with a metallic paint job?

I'm just not sure about this atall. Don't have a good feeling as I do not like too shiny stuff, specially things that were not so shiny to begin with.

Please kindly share a close up picture where metal flakes can be seen in the picture perhaps? Thanks in advance.

You don't seem to know what you want your car to look like, and that you have never seen metallic paint before. If you haven't already, perhaps you should just give them your credit card and let them have their way with it. Another option - whether it's metallic or not, if you don't like too shiny stuff, have it wrapped in matte vinyl.

The 'correct' paint for my car's sub frames is black.

Thankfully, not a lot of ridiculing goes on here.  People mind their manners, for the most part.

    Tom

Yes, some cars were black, particularly the later years, like yours, from what I've gathered. So, OP, never mind what I said about painting your subframes in the olivegreyblack. There are countless posts on the subject, and who really knows, aside from assumptions and lore that turn into "truth", later to be debunked, see the recent book by Jackie Jouret "The BMW 2002: The real story behind the legend".

Yes, it was a riveting tail of Jessica Alba stopping a drug lord from bringing cocaine into the states via the Caribbean while also discovering the Spanish Zephyr ship that sunk with millions or billions of dollars worth of treasure. Special guest appearance by Paul Walker and Flipper the crime fighting Dolphin. Music score done entirely by the Beach Boys.

He said "tail" uh huh huh huh

I successfully dropped the front subframe this morning with a buddy of mine. Now to clean, remove, weld a bit, paint up some stuff and then put all the new bits on before putting it back up. Appreciate the FAQ for sharing so much info to make it possible.

Only issues I had was that I didn’t remove the drivers motor mount, so it got hung up a bit, the alternator cable ( I think) wasn’t totally clear of steering box, and the subframe started to slide off of my jack, but managed to get it all sorted!

    Now for the fun stuff!

    Nice one man!

Just be sure to use the correct grey-green paint when repainting those subframe pieces! Don't cheap out and use Rust-Oleum or your car's value will take a nosedive and you will be ridiculed by the Wizards

  8. It's not a stock BMW 2002 color...definitely not pastelblau. Do you have a strong longing for this color on your own car? If you are adamant in finding this exact color, find the owner and ask by doing what you can on the interwebs and word of mouth. Otherwise, work with a body shop to find something similar. That's about it man.

    Just two observations.

Spare tire well is different than mine.  I have 3 body plugs and different contours.

Back seat floor is different.  Mine a has large drain plugs and removable drain disks.

If those are replacement pieces, kudos to the restorer. They look good.  Major restoration work.

If those areas are original what's the deal?  Why the differences?

You could always ask the seller if the spare tire well and back seat floor have been replaced! But that would require an eBay account, and additional typing, clicking, etc...

Paul seemed a good dude. Passionate automotive enthusiast.

I remember the day he died. We drove to the spot the Carrera GT went up in flames and the ground was still warm. It was only about 7 hours later. His death shook me pretty good.

Also I only watch Into the Blue for Jessica Alba's ass. It's that good. Huge fan.

    Damn. Dat ass.

    I don't remember tie rods being black...?‍♂️

Fast Tricky is right it's rare color in decent condition. A real pretty car. They just half assed' more than a few areas

What color are tie rods supposed to be? Not black?

They did half ass a lot of stuff on this car. Agreed. Lazy asses.

Maybe I'm going blind, but everything underneath looks painted with black spray paint. You can even see rust peeking through some of the washers/hardware on the front suspension. Even the rear axles are nuked in black paint.

This undercarriage, aside from a few new items (shocks/steering components) underwent a thorough Rustoleum rebuild.

Maybe you ARE goin' blind, man. Who in their right mind would completely disassemble an 02, put it on a spit like a pig with lipstick to get roasted, stripped to bare metal, repair all the metal and paint it with fresh, luscious turkis metallic and then put it all back together for $49K? Insanity...blindness...can't t..y.p..e no mo'

Looks decent. Why did they not paint the full underside?

Curious to what shocks those are? Monroe? PepBoys?

Wondering if those axles were refurbished, rebuilt or just cleaned up and painted

It all still looks to be the work of a 'flipper'..cutting corners after dropping so much $$ on

the fancy seats/interior and nice paint job

If you asked me what it is worth TODAY I'd say 30k tops

You're welcome for acquiring the pics you wanted, man! Are they what you knew they'd be?

You could always send the seller a message and ask why there is not a pristine coat of turkis on the underside

Curious to what shocks those are? Monroe? PepBoys?

They sure don't look like Billy HD's, that's for sure. Again, you should send the seller a message and ask, you might get an answer, maybe they are silver-painted Boge's?

Ask the seller and report back

Lots of people buy and sell cars as their main gig. They often don't know what's factory correct and uninformed buyers get "ripped off". People also buy and sell cars as a side gig, like many Instagram Influencers/Tastemakers, for extra cash.

If you asked me what it is worth TODAY I'd say 30k tops

Nobody axe you but it gonna sell for and be worth whatever someone gonna pay for it - you know the drill, riiiiiiiiigt?

Thanks! So I can buy half a pedal box foam with all the money I save on the dome light! ;)

The foam under there is pretty crusty and has plenty of dirt and other crud in it, behind it, etc. It's actually a little green, probably from moss? I just sort of feel bad for yanking it, after surviving under the car for all these years.

I don't go in for the trendy monikers, but I do brake for "slicktops"...the E30 318is is one too, the only option on it is a factory LSD (the only option that counts!) Lighter up top and less stuff to break!

Yes! You are on the path to Wizardry, I can feel it. Keep the insulation foam if you're feeling nostalgic - even a new one could easily tear when installing unless you are super careful and have the patience of a murderer on death row. Try a VW outlet like WCM for the dome lamp if it's the same part #, might be less dinero to buy as a VW part instead of BMW
