  1. right, i'll check it out, thanks chaps!
  2. Hi Mike, forgot that bit! Yesterday when it happened I stopped on a slight incline and as I stopped I rolled back a little and it released and off I went. Today I pulled over and again, it released itself. Both times I have fortunately been going only 30-40mph and both times it's taken quite a thump for it to happen - our awful roads are a real pleasure! I believe the wheel nuts to be tight - i haven't checked today because it's pissing it down and i'm in my work suit! i can't imagine they're loose however as I'm sure i would have noticed. Regarding the lock up - the wheel locked completely dragging the wheel, squatting the car down and pulling me into the kerb - you can imagine my surprise (and my better half's distress!!!). cheers
  3. Hello all, it's been a long while but I'm still here! Had this little incident yesterday and today - put it down to a 'one-off' yesterday but as it happened again this morning it's obviously not and needs urgent attention. Twice now I've been over large potholes/drain covers and the left side rear brake has locked up completely! Fortunately i was going not too fast on either occasion or it could have been 'fun'! To save me hours of fiddling, does anybody have any experience of this or know where i could start looking? I have no idea why a bump would cause the brakes to lock up? It just seems impossible to me... TIA
  4. I've just installed an only02 kit and i think FOR THE MONEY it is a great kit and Chris is a top bloke to deal with. Granted, there are probably better quality carpets out there (in terms of materials used) but you pays your money. I didn't have any problems fitting the kit, finding each part well finished and a good fit, and the difference between the new and the old carpet is night and day. i am very happy. sorry i don't have any pics of it right now, will post when i do...
  5. I emailed mobile tradition a little while ago about RHD mats and they don't make 'em
  6. My car's a touch lower than yours and i don't have any problems. You might find this thread helpful: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,304748/highlight,/
  7. I've recently had the pleasure of doing business with 2 top blokes in the USA - Chris from Only 02 and Steve from Top End Performance. I thought I should feedback on this good experience here. Both have been wonderfully helpful and their products superb. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending either to anybody on this side on the pond or elsewhere. Thank you both
  8. Absolutely beautiful - I hope it goes to an owner who drives it a bit more - 300 miles in 3 years seems criminal to me (I live 10 minutes from this guy and have never seen any of his cars on the road!!)
  9. The search works! My car failed its MOT today - no hazards - quick search, up comes this post, sure enough, fuse 8 blown AND my interior light is working again. Had assumed the bulb had blown and as I don't drive at night was too lazy to bother replacing!! Thanks Curt and The Search
  10. Hello everybody, not been about for a while - boring stuff - work commitments etc but I had to drop by so you could join me in wishing my car a happy 35th birthday today! From Andreas at Mobile Tradition: "The BMW 2002 tii rhd VIN 2752158 was manufactured on June 6th, 1973 and delivered the same day to the importer BMW London Ltd. The original colour was Verona, paint code 024" Well she's not Verona anymore but she looks better than she did when I found her... She faithfully takes me to work and back every day and never fails to cheer me up even on bad days - any '02 driver would know this of their car however! So, happy birthday Betsy and may you celebrate many more!
  11. I have one on my car and it runs great. Took it off my old car - probably been running strong for 8 years now. I have a Crane system on the CSi - they both a as good as each other so probably price and availability are the biggest factors...?
  12. what's the best way to stop this? i really don't want to have to buy one of the new plastic caps but i just can't persuade my original cap to stop leaking. any hints appreciated.
  13. Spax shocks and springs, don't know if it's available in the US. They have adjustable rebound and are very good they lowered the car a nice amount at the back but I think the front could go lower though...
  14. I think the door cards especially look well nice!
  15. Thanks guys, I knew he and his business were good from all the positive feedback I've seen on here - which is why I couldn't figure why I hadn't received a reply from him. I'll see if I can sneak a cheeky international phone call in without the missus noticing!
  16. Can somebody help me please? I'm trying to get hold of Rob (or somebody!) at 2002 Haus as I'd like to buy one of their 5 speed conversion kits. I'm in the UK and therefore only really able to send emails - which I have done twice but no response! I don't really want to hound the guy but I'd really like to get on with this project as I think my 'box is pretty close to biting it! Does anybody know if they're inherently slow at responding to emails/on holiday/doesn't like us Brits??? Cheers
  17. Here's mine (with the number plate fallen off!). It's an Alpina rep but I don't know the manufacturer as it was on the car when I had it...
  18. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330219113894&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:Watchlink:middle:uk if i'd had a few quid knocking about...
  19. My car in a parallel universe! It's a lovely looking car, whether it's an Alpina or not... One thing on the colour that I can add - according to a German 02er who was around when these cars were new - getting hold of a ti in any colours other than Polaris or Colorado at one point in time was almost impossible. Can anybody tell us why??
  20. Oh bloody hell! I opened a can of worms here! I don't know what make my head gasket is - I got it from Jaymic and the bolts were new from BMW. TobyB your reasoning sounds the best to me and is what I have done in the past - but I've never been sure that it's the correct way so thought I'd ask this time! Fingers crossed it will work anyway Thanks chaps
  21. When re-torquing the head bolts (after the running-in period on a replacement head) should you torque the bolts from where they are or should you back them off slightly before re-torquing? Thanks!
  22. Rich, James, I've just been looking at the pics from the event, looks like it was a great event but I hope you had a word with the owner of this number plate - he's clearly got it all wrong about 02s?!!
  23. sounds like you and valentine02 need to get together - his won't go off! (sorry couldn't resist!)
  24. Thanks chaps, all helpful as ever! Can anybody tell me to save looking it up what sort of temperature I should be reading in the top of the radiator? I think that outcome of all this is that I pull my finger out and get on with installing some auxiliary gauges - I've been planning to for a long while but never get the time - perhaps that time has come! Cheers!
  25. Can anybody explain this little mystery to me please? My car's only been on the road after a complete rebuild since June/July, there have been a couple of hiccups up until now but she's mostly been well behaved - certainly so for the past couple of months. That's her background. Last weekend I'd been out in her for the day when I noticed that the temperature was starting to rise. Fortunately I was only 10 miles from home at this point and the rising temperature was slow (but steady). When I arrived home she was just under the red. When doing a preliminary check I noticed that the lower radiator hose was cold as was the bottom of the radiator. So the next day I gently took her over to my dad's (where I work on her) and the temperature ran upto '3 o'clock' but not over. We took the thermostat off and tested it where it appeared to work ok so put it back in. Topped up the system and did our best to eliminate any air. Low and behold after running for 10-15 minutes the needle started to creep up past the half way mark again with the bottom hose remaining cold so we assumed it must be the thermostat and we'd not tested it right! Other things to check mentioned in my various manuals included head gasket (replaced with refinished head less than 600 miles ago), radiator cap (holds good pressure), blocked radiator (new last year), water pump (new and double-checked this week to make sure it's still ok - I know new things CAN go wrong sometimes!) and a couple of other things I can't recall right now. Basically everything seems to be working and HAD always been working so why this problem now? I did some digging using the search function and it seems a lot of people's cars run with a cold bottom hose and I could live with this too if it weren't for the temperature now starting to creep up as it does. However surely BMW didn't intend for this when they designed the system all that while ago?! If anybody can help it would be most appreciated as I'm now running with a gutless thermostat body to get me about (the car's my daily drive) which isn't ideal as it's now running too cold! Life would be so simple without these little cars we love so much... TIA
