  1. This is a great deal, I've been yearning after one of these for a while. Now's the time to do it I guess! Thanks!
  2. Hi Paul, my vin is 2752158 - so we share 5 digits! My car was actually verona when it left the factory on 6th June 1973. When I acquired it it was completely without paint so I painted it the Lamborghini colour. Slightly wish I hadn't bothered with a pearl now as it's a pain in the arse to match up when doing repairs. You live and learn... Cheers!
  3. Hello! It's been a long while but I thought I'd drop by and say hello. My tii has been off the road since around this time last year but a new business, family and everything else in life has prevented a swifter return to the road... just wanted to stop by and say hello to all the old guard and the newcomers, hopefully my car will be back on the road in the new year - I expect complete with gremlins we'll need to iron out between us ha ha! Hope you're all keeping well, nice to be 'back' adam
  4. There's a black turbo in the UK. My mechanic who looks after many historic road and race BMWs (ex Prodrive, Sytner, Nick Whale...) says it's a genuine factory car (colour, build etc). I saw it once in Somerset randomly in a car park, must be going back 15 years or so now. There's surely far too much anecdotal evidence that supports one or two cars at least left the factory in 'non standard' colours?
  5. RealOEM list six different thicknesses from 2.8-3.4mm. Who knew?! Now, can anybody tell me the correct way to measure to determine this shim thickness please?
  6. CD, do you have the measurements for a tii? I'm experiencing exactly the same problem, with a regularly loosening rear hub assembly. I have a feeling this is caused by PO mixing a regular 2002 drive flange with associated tii parts. I'm guessing that the overall width of a tii flange is greater than a non-tii flange and that the various thickness shims play a part in all this?
  7. My little boy loves my tii. We travel to and from day care every day in her - she's quite a hit with all his class mates too!
  8. My better half has a Mini Cooper S Works - 210hp out of a 1.6 and it SIIIIINGS. Would love to slot one of these into an 02 but I don't think I have the brain or the skills! In the meantime... I have a complete spare tii engine which I'd love to work over to get a good chunk extra out of it. What sort of hp can you get out of a tii without making mods to the pump etc.? I think anywhere north of 160hp would be worthwhile. Possible?
  9. Shameless plug for my manifold on UK ebay but happy to ship further afield if there's interest. Cheers, adam http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190724270791?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649#ht_500wt_1331
  10. Hmm, you've hit the UK a bit wrong, missing some great events later in the month, MotoGP & Festival of Speed to name a couple. Plenty of motoring related sights to see here in the UK however. Coventry transport museum, Beaulieu motor museum, Gaydon heritage centre, all of our historic circuits and venues, Prescott speed hill climb (run by the Bugatti club and in beautiful countryside), Donington, Silverstone, Shelsley Walsh (oldest motorsport venue in continuous use in the world), Brands Hatch, Rockingham, Santa Pod etc etc. Have a look at their websites, I'm sure you'll find something to take your interest. Enjoy your stay here.
  11. I'm getting the head over to the machine shop tomorrow to get them to check it over - it's already on it's minimum so assuming it has remained straight, no cracks etc - would folks recommend a cutter type gasket or go again with a regular gasket? I've read a lot about the cutter gaskets and also mls gaskets (I'm assuming the two are different??) but what are the pros and cons?
  12. Hmm. This engine was rebuilt by a very reputable engine shop only four years ago and has probably done only about 18,000 miles in that time yet this is its second (possible) head gasket. First time it munched the head quite hard as well. Very different symptoms this time (perhaps why I've not jumped to this conclusion sooner). Any reason why this engine seems to have a thirst for head gaskets? I don't want to go through this for a third time - like I mentioned - this car is my daily driver... needless to say it's well looked-after, regular oil changes, never overheats, my mechanic who tunes it for me has an excellent reputation over here. So I wouldn't say that it could be down to neglect or anything like that. Any thoughts appreciated.
  13. Mr Eurotrash, I think I can answer my own question, dear dad was already testing comps. 1 & 2, 13 bar. 3 & 4, 4/5 bar. Uh oh. Would somebody else like to say this for me - I can't bring myself to say it out loud...!
  14. Hi Bill, thanks for your feedback. I probably should have explained initially that my car is in daily use and I had in fact done some miles on the day that the problem reared its head. I'd popped in to see my folks and upon leaving found the car to be running very poorly. Upon establishing everything was ok on the ignition side, I referred to the BMW 2002tii Fuel Injection Manual (the one with the blue cover produced by BMWNA) and specifically page 17 - Warm running problems. So with the engine running I went through loosening the fuel delivery lines above the delivery valves to establish where the problem was. Lines to 3&4 cylinders showed no difference in running. Fuel also leaked out which the manual states points to either a defective delivery valve or injector. As I said before, from swapping a good delivery valve with one of the bad ones and not seeing any improvement I assumed the problem to lie with the injector - but this is apparently not the case either. So, the spark plugs are sparking, the KF is delivering fuel but I'm getting no combustion in cylinders 3 & 4. Blown head gasket? Bad rings?
  15. Looking for a few suggestions, obviously it's difficult to diagnose accurately over the internet but I'd like a few more ideas before I concede defeat and take it to my mechanic. First off, ignition side is perfect. I've followed all the procedures to test everything and it works out fine. Then I moved to the fuel side following the 'manual' from the tii registry to check and trouble shoot the whole system. I worked through as far as the part where you slacken off the fuel lines in turn from the KF (those familiar will know what I mean). I identified the two problem cylinders as 3 & 4. I swapped the fuel delivery valves between 4 and 2 (ie a working and a 'non-working' cylinder) in order to determine if fault was at injector or fuel delivery valve. According to the manual given the results, my problem was with the injectors. I'm working today so my dad kindly agreed to swap out the injectors with known good spares that we keep. Having replaced them, the engine is running no better. (poor dad!) I have my suspicions where to look now (but I'm a bit of a pessimist so I don't want to put any thoughts out there) but would like to know what your thoughts are? TIA
  16. I've been running these on my car for 4 years now. Never really fiddled with the various settings, set them sort of mid-way and have never felt the need to change that - mind you I don't use my car for anything other than driving on the roads. I've been really impressed with them. Build is good, price was reasonable (here in the UK at least) and their performance on the car has been great. The only issue I've had with them was with the one rear spring which to this day refuses to sit 'nicely' on the perch but nothing major. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend especially if you're the sort who likes to tinker with settings.
  17. I don't often disagree with my fellow FAQers but really COME ON! I commute in my 1973 tii every day, rain or shine and have been for 4 years now or thereabouts. We have a ridiculous amount of salt dropped on our roads in the UK each winter so I take precautions - plenty of rust prevention on the underneath and we're fine. The only time she's let me down is when her fuel pump mounts gave up and one of the seals on the brake master cylinder failed - both things that could happen on any 'used' car. My partners E46 has had far more go wrong with it and each time has relied on a mechanic fixing it whereas 02s can usually be fixed by a competent DIYer. As a final note: there's a guy writes for Classic & Sportscar magazine over here and he drives thousands of miles in his 02 each year - his car is very well known and a testament to the durability and reliability of these cars. If you fancy it then I say GO FOR IT!
  18. I tried to but I think my browser's playing me up. Hopefully this will work...
  19. Can you post more pictures of your car? I would like that look for my 71 '02. thanks Hi Vladimir, she's changed a bit since that pic was taken, lost the all black grilles and gained the stripe, I've also got the 'proper' Italian signals and ditched the all clears. The colour is a Lamborghini pearl. I use her every day so it's difficult to give her the time and attention she deserves but I've had her in constant use for nearly 4 years now since the rebuild and she's still not looking too bad. I have to get the bottoms of the doors seen to this year as the salt off the roads in the winter was pretty bad this year but other than that she's ok (and it will give me a chance to get my drivers door hung properly finally!). Cheers, adam
  20. *bump* Ending today in a little under 5 hours Cheers
  21. I'm not sure that the threads are suspect, I've never had a problem and threads can't just go, right? (well in other applications I suspect but not in this static environment). Like I said, these plugs are pretty old as they've always performed well so I've not had reason to change them. I'll try a new set and see if the crush washer us the issue. Talking about head removal is not the way to start a weekend!
  22. Oh happy Friday! Bugger it! Thanks for the input everybody. Let's hope it stays put for at least a little longer...
  23. Nah, the first time it happened I'd assumed it was just a one-off, I was on the road so just tightened it up (exhaust manifolds are bloody hot!!) and thought nothing more of it. This time it's happened I was pulling into my car park at work and heard the distinctive noise like a blowing exhaust so again, didn't have another plug with me or time to 'play'. I'll grab 5 minutes this weekend and see what I come up with. Thanks chaps
  24. Thanks Bob, I'll have to see if I can acquire a plug socket from somewhere so I can use my torque wrench.
  25. They're the Bosch Super 4s. I've done a lot of miles with this particular set without any problems before which is what I find peculiar - the thread wouldn't just 'give up' would it?? Switching a couple round sounds a very sensible thing to do. I think there is a torque spec but I only have the BMW plug tool that you just stick a bar through to tighten.
