Mommas, don't let your guibos grow up to be...

well, THAT wasn't going to go anywhere. Obviously.

I just teched the car for a track day, and found ONE

loose bolt on the guibo. Not 2, not 4, just one. And not

all that loose, either. But obviously not nearly tight enough.

I'd been hearing something

when changing direction, and went all over everything.

Because it's usually sign of impending something- or- other

coming loose.

Seemed odd. I don't usually check all 8. Even on the race thing.

Now I will.

fwiw.

I have a buddy who just cracked the front of his transmission case with a loose guibo bolt, so yeah... good thing to check. Also good to learn vicariously through the mistakes of others ;-)

I found similar war scars on a beater 76 parts car I picked up.

PO knew the center support bearing was shot, but drove the car anyway (which, at the time hadn't been registered for over a year... with out of state plates). Bearing seized and broke free from the tunnel mounts, leaving the drive shaft to do all kinds of transmission damage. Nice.

By the way, it never occurred to me to make jewelry out of the remaining guibo sleeves. I'm sure my girlfriend would've really appreciated the sentiment ;-)

My guibo is running on 7 bolts right now. one came out on the freeway. It was scary as hell. came out cause the transmission shattered the Soild mount I made for it, was bouncing around for a good 10 miles. transmissions a bit leaky now. Thankfully I got the heavy duty 320i to hold it in place.

My guibo literally looks like a Pie missing a slice. sometimes it just cant handle the turbo torque ;)

but I really gotta replace it. lol
