3M Rubberized Body Shutz?

Anyone have any thoughts/experience with it?

The Brit car guys swear by it, and rumor has it that 3M was the original supplier to BMW for their Shutz.

It provides a paintable rubberized coating that is supposed to provide a good degree of sound deadening as well. They also have a fairly nice applicator gun which, because a separate supply tube that comes with the shutz, never needs to be cleaned.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Yep, I've used it for many (15, now) years.

2 thoughts.

1- it seems to work well.

2- surface prep is important. Don't apply it over rust or bare metal.

Clean things up as if you weren't going to Schutz it, then use it.

If this is a bare-metal restoration, you might check out some of the (modern) catalyzed urethane truck bed coatings. They are tough beyond belief and don't transmit moisture like the Wurth or 3M coatings that require a catalyzed primer or paint.

TobyB,

Have you been using the solvent or the water based version?

No amount of skill or education will ever replace dumb luck
