Can a 6v 1600 run AC effectively?

Seeing as I live in Texas, I'm strongly considering piecing together a 134a AC system for my 67 1600. This is where I run into my issue. My car runs on 6 volts. Apart from the blower, is AC mostly mechanical? I know there are units out there that convert 6v to 12. I may discreetly add one of these to power a radio and a blower motor plus any additional switches. I know, most of you will say just convert to 12v - but I really don't want to. Granted, I have NO experience with the reliability of a 6v system so if you'd like to offer some insight I'm all ears. I have a relatively new starter and generator so I should be in good shape.

TIA for any opinions.

Most of the various electrical components of an early style A/C system. Many must be correct for whatever voltage the car is running... Especially the compressor clutch! I'd have a chat with the people at Vintage Air http://www.vintageair.com/ to ask about 6-volt components and systems. They are a/c gurus!! It may come down to either 12V w/ A/C or 6V w/o it.....

Blower

Relay 1 or more

Various electrical pressure switches

Blower switch

Blower fan speed resistor

If the components are available.... the car can handle it.... just with a very significant loss of power and stalling issues at stop signs....

a/c evaporator temp sensor/temp switch

A/C compressor clutch

Pat,

Call Oscar (713) 680 9664 at CUSTOM CAR COOL

1525-C North Post Oak Road, Houston, TX 77055

These guys put ACs in all kinds of classic cars from Model T's to our 2002s.

They did a great job on mine. I tell you that my 02 cools like a modern car now. The original 1970s AC I had sucked and made for a "bad marriage" in an 02.
