Yes, very nice bimmers. There are a couple around here in Rochester and I drove to Canton, Ohio about 9 years ago to look at a silver 528i that was for sale. First Fives dot Org always has nice "car of the month" E-12's.

What year is your 528i? Automatic or manual gearbox? 79 528i had a 4 speed, 80 & 81 came with a 5 speed. M30 engines are bullit proof, the 3 speed automatic usually lasted about 150K before it went south. Not many 530i's left in CA, they are hard to smog (thermal reactors) and had head cracking problems.

That's cool, an original CA blue plate E12.

I have a 81 Euro spec 528i, here are some pics of it.

The stock steel wheels in the pics have been replaced with 15" E34 style 5 wheels, and the sealed beams have been replaced with Hella H1/H4 lights. I have located some original cloth material to fix the drivers seat.

I already have acquired all parts to do a 5 speed swap except a 5 speed driveshaft but I think that I have located one. The autotragic has got to go, I can't wait to install the 5 speed.

E12s are awesome. Torquey bulletproof motors, smooth and comfortable cruisers that can still be tossed around. I have owned 4 of them in the past and am in the process of acquiring another parts car. My current ride is a 76 with 3.3 liter 4-speed (soon-to-be 5-speed) that I got from cars4causes three years ago. It's a keeper.

Firstfives is a great board to get information from.

Where in California are you? I seem to remember your new acquisition listed for sale on Craigslist but I can't recall where.

Enjoy.

The car is a '80, with a 5 speed. It has 220,000 on the og engine. I bought it from a guy on craigslist about 4 months or so ago. The PO bought the car after it had been sitting, and drove it for like 2 days when the waterpump went out, then the car was parked for 2 years with the hood off, but a cover over the car. Since I'm not quite sure about the history of the engine, and the fact that it has 220k on it, I was thinking of going with a 3.5L swap, but haven't got the time or money right now.

It's a great car, though, and I can't wait till I can drive it.

I have an 81 (last year of the e12). Just grab an e12 haynes manual, and a bmp classic catalog and that should keep you going for awhile.

Mines 213k and still does 100mph no problem. comfortable cars...and can't beat the Frua styling

an e30, an e12, a /5, and, of course, a 2002.
