Advertising a Car For Sale Nationally

Recommended Posts

I sold my 2002 on eBay last may. Some people don't like it, but it gets a lot of traffic. I had good interest and sold the car for about what I expected. The buyer was about 150 miles away and we met for a cash transaction. I bought another car the same way.

I first owned a 2002 in 1975.

I have had the best luck in the past with the Roundel. There are a lot of enthusiasts who get it that never go to a website. Ebay has a huge following. The analytics say that BMW's are one of the most sucessful brands in terms of the auction actually leading to a sale (not necessarily selling at auction). Hemmings on the other hand seems to have a low take rate for BMW's. Roadfly gets a lot of hits, but there are a lot of smucks who seem to have time to waste. Same thing with Bimmerforums. Another approach is to post in the classified sections of the local CCA chapters that are within striking distance from where you live. I sold a car a few years back by listing it on the Peachtree Chapter website (I live in Va. but only a days drive from there). With the exception of rarer cars, most are sold regionally. Transport costs are expensive and often ruin the economics of a long distance deal. As in all effective marketing, I would recommend multiple channels, especially in this day and time. Good luck.

More former BMW's than it is possible to list.

Although it's considered a "local" tool, I've used CraigsList successfully to sell to a national auddience for BMW and other items over the past 3 yrs. Many CraigsListers (is that a word?) do search nationally, and I bought my present 02 resulting from a national (regional) search. People responding to my listings have been easy to qualify and I havn't run into more than one or two who were not genuinely interested.
