Best way to seal heater box to firewall?

I'm ready to install my rebuilt heater box and would like to know the sealer of choice to use between the box and the firewall.

at auto body supply stores. Two things not to use: open cell adhesive-backed foam--it'll hold water and rust things out. Also don't use a butyl or other adhesive caulk--you'll have a terrible time getting the heater box out again as that stuff will glue the box to the firewall.

I did just what Mike suggests. Worked well for me. You might be surprised at the other uses that you'll discover for the left over strip caulk.

my preferred method of sealing the pedal box to the floor and the fuel tank to the support bracket

I have used strip caulk called "Dum-Dum" (it's clay-like and used to seal stop lights and such). Should be available at your local auto supply store.
