Oil Temp

sender unit, the best spot is in the oil filter housing. 1972 and later cars have a dimple cast into the filter housing--it's meant for the oil line that runs to the K-fish pump on tii's, but isn't drilled/tapped on carbed cars. It's the perfect spot for a VDO oil temp sender. Just remove the filter housing from the block, drill and tap for the appropriate threads, and wire it up. If you have an earlier car without the dimple in the housing, later ones are easy enough to find...

Much better than a drain plug sender, with its vulnerable under-car wiring...

on the underside of the piston, right before it drips off into the pan.

But it's kind of hard to measure there.

I have put sensors in the filter housing and in the pan, and they

usually agree WHEN the motor's working hard.

But you'll never get better than an 'average' of all the oil, as hot spots

occur in impossible- to- measure places...
