Fuel Pump "Insulator"

I have had my mechanical fuel pump on and off a lot lately, and have had a great deal of trouble trying to seal the insulator that fits between the head and the pump. I was going to replace the gaskets, but it appears as if you can only get them as part of the insulator that goes between the head and the pump. I finally popped for a new insulator (thanks, Blunt!), and the damned old thing still leaks.

I thought that with the new gaskets, I would not have to use any gasket sealer. I guess I thought wrong, because I am still getting a fairly copious amount of oil seeping out from between the insulator and the head. I cleaned the mating surface on the head quite well before putting the new insulator in. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, what did you do to seal the leak? BTW, I tried various gasket sealers on the old gasket with some success, but finally destroyed the gasket during install/re-install.

The mechanical fuel pump mounting flangr gaskets are available under VW part #113127311.

The mounting flange of your fuel pump is warped from age and over tightening. I have sealed them up using a few different solutions...

double up the gasket... and or... I like to use Loctite 518 red flange sealant...

..... and I'll bet your missing the nylon stud centering

bushings with washer flange !

Without the nylon mounting bushings inserted into the 2 pump mounting

holes, and using a flat washers under new ny-loc nuts - the pump will

always work loose and leak.

.....see them under my . , ,,, , well they were my nuts !

Look in your Parts Book again.
