Changing the ignition barrel over?

How do you change an ignition barrel? I have one good one that I want to swap with my dodgy one so my key works. So how do I do it the easy way?

Todd, what happend to search?

Remove all the under dash pannels (if you have them on yet???) and there is 2 round headed bolts (they have a hex head that shears off when installed) so they must be cut. Try a drill and easy-out, or a Dremel and put a slot for a flat head screw driver, or vice-grips if you can get to the bolts.

Have fun with it - but now the doors will need a different key.

the whole housing (the part that contains the steering wheel lock).

Check archives for details but here it is quick and dirty.

1. disconnect battery

2. remove under dash cardboard panels

3. locate the small roll pin on the side of the ign lock housing and CAREFULLY drill it out.

4. Pull lock cylinder out of its housing

5. Reinstall, taking care to line up the piece on the back of the ign lock with the piece on the plastic contact plate (the thing the wires are connected to. Then retain the lock cylinder using a small sheet metal screw in place of the roll pin.

6. reconnect battery.

Any competent locksmith can re-key your door locks to match the new ign lock...
