weber air filter hitting hood

have a weber 32 36 dgv and noticed that the there is a mild scrape under the hood from the airfilter. Suspecting a motor mount issue and have new ones ordered. The engine will be coming out this month to spray the inside of the firewall. Any other culprits that I might look for with the engine out. thanks mike

air cleaner? If so, they have a tendency to allow the air cleaner to hit the hood. I was never able to make mine work, so I simply cut up the bottom of the air cleaner can and made a closed cell foam gasket to bridge the space. Works just fine.

cheers

I removed the rubber gasket and it's attendent lip from the OEM air cleaner with my trusty Dremel tool and tinsnips, then insured the new opening matched the Weber's rectangular throat opening (vs the Solex'es oval one.)

Then I took a chunk of closed cell foam that was slightly thicker than the space between the air cleaner and the carb when the air cleaner was resting on its four brackets. I traced the outline of the Weber's throat opening, then cut the corresponding hole. Finally I trimmed the gasket's outside perimeter so it wouldn't interfere with choke linkage, etc.

When I rebuilt the engine last year, I finally replaced the original gasket I had made in 1979 with a nice new one that I also made.

Remember, the air cleaner should rest on its brackets, NOT on the carb.
