Without hesitation, Wolfgang and his son Fred are the top 02 mechanics in the east Bay. I no longer live up there and sure miss having them as my mechanics. Tell them Tom Stephenson says hello! The info is:

The only other mechanic I let touch my car besides myself is JP Cadoux in Marin (www.a1importsautoworks.com). Thats it.

Wolfgang has been working on and BMWs and racing 1600s since before there were 2002s! While Fred has a VERY trick 2002 racer himself.

I used to be at Berkeley Motor Works in Albany. But since I left for Sacramento way almost two years ago I don't think they work on 2002s anymore let alone have a tech who likes working on them.

One other place I'd take an 2002 in the EastBay is Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley.

i didn't want to post on this until i had firsthand experience, but i just got my 02 back from Gavin Autowerks (7920 Capwell Dr. Oakland 94621) off Hegenberger in Oakland. he's very fair and consciencious and used by a couple coworkers for their 80's vintage 6-series.

he's a one-man shop and works on Mercedes, Porsches and BMWs. i would use him again.
