How's this for Mickey-Mousing....

It took me a minute to figure out what the bolt was for, so I crawled underneath and undid it. Sure enough, the front shifter plate bushings were shot and everything dropped down onto the driveshaft. The 2 holes are drilled straight through the shiftplate. Once the bolt is in, everything is fairly stable.

looks like there's a fatigue crack in your future. put a thick rubber bushing between the parts to try to decouple them somewhat. or better yet, just fix it right. probably have to drop the driveshaft unless you have double-jointed fingers and a helluva lot of patience.
